Deaf Australian Student Sues Australian University

Few Australian (ADers) college students have took courses with cerified deaf interpreters.

Bendigo is a small town in the rural area of Victoria, there is limited number of interpreters. I wish this gal all the best in the court!

laTrobe University is a victorian based universtiy, where it is deaf friendly university, but unfortunately for this gal, she didn't even bother to use the proper campus to get better interpreters, only to provide what that's limited in her area. LaTroube is facing a huge crisis - despite all these money meltdown.

Thank you for explaining. Good luck that she would win award against university.

This is very interesting. I'm sure my colleagues at Griffith University would love to read about this.

I am a student at Griffith University and they have ALWAYS provided NAATI certified Auslan interpreters, and trained notetakers.

Do Australian have only deaf college and university like Gallaudet University and Ntid?

No, we don't.

Only that we have deaf schools in Melbourne and Sydney -- not universities.

Too bad. Mainstreaming of almost deaf students with learning disabilities into regular classrooms of colleges and universities in Australia. How many do students have attended there now?

I have no idea, Chevy57 -- I graduated three years ago! :laugh2:

I am graduating from community college this year, son.

AFAIK, only 3 signing Deaf people are enrolled at Griffith University, whilst the rest are oral deaf, and only rely on notetakers.

Hey, notetakers are very useful for lectures cause I have to watch the interpreter ALL the time so I don't miss any essential information. If there's anything I don't understand or have missed, there's the notes from my lovely team of notetakers :D

special education for deaf students at college and university in Australia?

I have met Marianna a couple of time. A nice young lady, she is. Wish her all the best in her case.
