Oye. A short while ago my friends and I were watching the Tonight Show. You know, with Jay Leno. A long time ago I pronounced Leno with a long "e," like in the word bee. I was eventually corrected by my sister that Leno was a short "a", like benno. I was like Duhhh, I am outta touch. So I bit my tongue bloody every time we saw that show, my friends and I. I said Lenno.
But a short while ago someone piped that Jay Leno announced that since he traced his family to Italy, his real name pronunciation was Leeno. Applause, applause, yeah all that, except when I somehow tried using Obama's name. I said it like Obama. I gather from their olympian triumph it is Oboma.
Makes me wonder how many of us deafies say the name Obama correctly. Hmmm
 
yes, obama's name is pronounced oboma.

i know how you feel about mispronouncing words. there have been some words i've been mispronouncing for years and yet no one has corrected me. :(
 
My son made me to say Obama and I pronounced it right. PFFFFFFFFFFFFT when I was younger I was saying hoven not oven. My mom, brother and sister corrected me so many times and I finally said it right and still do said it right. Yay.

Trink instead of drink. I managed to make it right. :D

name wrong so i assumed i pronounced it right..heh.
Like it was spelled..OBAMA.

Hear Again..i think you are wrong..about the way
it is pronounced..Oboma..not correct. It is sounded
like it is spelled..Obama. Why? because my family
are hearing and they would have corrected me if i
pronounced any word wrong.

Jay Leno name is pronounced exactly like it is spelled:
LENO.

Perhaps I wasn't clear in my description. Sorry about that.

Obama's name is pronounced Oboma (with a short "ah" sound) as this is what I notice hearies say on TV and in real life. It's not pronounced Obama (as in "am" sound), I promise you that.
