The dinner bill for three friends at Chilly D's Restaurant stung, but it wasn't the price - printed on the top of the receipt were the words "Fat Girls".

"I got the bill, I was looking at bill [and] I was like, 'Why does this receipt say 'fat girls?'" customer Christine Duran said.

The friends had dined out at the Stockton, Calif., restaurant, which is a part of the Cameo Casino Restaurant, on Thursday. The bill lists charges for three tri-tips with fries and three sodas, for a total of $25.50. A bartender named Jeff had apparently typed in "Fat Girls" to keep track of their bill.

When Duran asked a manager for an explanation, he "had like a smirk on his face, like it was funny but trying not to laugh," she said.

Plus-Sized College Student Claims Discrimination at Bar

The dining experience went from bad to worse when the restaurant demanded they still pay the bill, offering them a 25 percent discount and then a 50 percent discount. They declined both offers.

In a Facebook message overnight, Maggie Lewis, the Cameo Club Casino owner, apologized and said the insulting treatment Duran and her friends had received is "intolerable in our establishment."

Jimmy Siemers, co-owner of Chilly D's, didn't work the night Duran and her friends received the offensive receipt, but he said he is trying to clean up the mess.

"I just want to tell them we're sincerely sorry and we'll do everything in our power to make sure this never happens to anyone again," he said.

It's certainly not the first time customers have been insulted on receipts.

In January, a Papa John's employee was fired after writing "Lady Chinky Eyes" on a receipt to identify an Asian customer.

A Maryland woman was insulted at a RadioShack in March when she purchased a cassette tape adapter and left with a receipt that read "ugly itch" from "tattoville," referring to the tattoos on her arm in memory of a child lost to SIDS and her deceased mother.

"Based on descriptions we've seen in the media, this incident obviously does not meet RadioShack's expectations for customer service," Eric Bruner, a spokesman for RadioShack told ABC News. "RadioShack responded immediately after seeing reports in the media, taking the strongest possible disciplinary actions." It is against company policy to discuss individual personnel matters but the company has taken the "strongest action available" in response to the issue, the spokesman said.

With the power of Internet, gotta to be very careful what one said about others. Saying wrong word can throw anyone off like losing job for example.

Claiming they were discriminated against? Sounds like they're reaching a little bit. Was their service indicative that they were being treated badly because of their weight? I'd say no, if that hadn't been on their receipt they would have left all happy campers. Were they called that to their face? No. I imagine that anything the staff is using to keep track of people is generally removed before the receipt is printed, they must have forgotten? People are overly sensitive. I guess the guy should have wrote "the curvy girls". That's the new word for fat. I've seen plenty of girls refer to themselves as "curvy". No. Kim Kardashian is curvy. If you look like Jennifer Lopez you get to be curvy, if you look more like Roseanne Barr, uhhh no, curvy is not the word for that. If you don't want people to think you're fat, you don't get to change the word, you need to lose some weight.

Are you for real?? That was totally uncalled for writing 'fat girl' on the bill and the woman should had not paid for her meal. No one should paid to being insulted! How would you like if you when out to eat and someone wrote a insulting remark about your hearing on your bill? It would be no difference than calling a person fat , they both are an insult!

" Eeny, meeny, miny, moe, catch a tiger by 'N" I do not need to say the rest
Anyway I did not know this happen until we got home as I did not hear it being . My famliy was glad I did not hear the bitch saying that as I would had said something . No one in my family said anything as they did not want to made a scene at the restaurant .They paid the bill and left , I was very upset that no said one damn word to the owner as my famliy been going to the restaurant for at least 20 years. My dad and the owner where friends , needless to we never ate there again. I did call the restaurant to let them know what happen and that we would not being going there any more.

Perhaps if you forego the gunpowder in your Wheaties...........

The first time I ate at restaurant with my (not yet) wife, they wrote "Father/Daughter" on the bill. She is much younger than I am. It irked me, as that was the biggest concern I had moving into a relationship with her. It was like the whole world saw the same thing.

What kind of restaurant where you eating at ? Did you ask why the hell that was written on your bill?

Name calling is one of those complex questions of life. I think many people have gotten called something at some point in their lives, either in real life or online. Who knows what names I've gotten called behind my back.

Too bad I don't get to see my bill... :deal:

I guess part of it is these waiters see tons of people everyday and resort to the easy/childish ways to remember others instead of their actual names. Perhaps this could be a fault of wages? "You get what you pay for".
On the other hand, I think some people can't really stop their habits of being vocal in what they think or name others, but we can always stop what we want to call them in response.

Some people aren't good at remembering names (yours truly)...but faces, I'm much better at....

Seems to me the waiter/waitress/server could have marked/whited out their description of the lady before giving her the check...Or numbering the booths where patrons are eating.

Wouldn't like it either if someone described me as ..."the deaf old dingbat with the white/grey hair"...:giggle:

Would I complain?....You bet, loud and clear!...and of course, no tip!...But I would have paid the bill.

I know of one restaurant here in town that will put names or something like that on a check and they always ask for your name. If you don't give it, then they will put down the color you are wearing. That's Boston Market here in town. Hubby and daughter forgot to give the name and they put down "Little Black Sparkles" for the shiny beads on daughter's black pants.

Are you for real??
Yep I'm totally for real. From what the article said they were not treated badly, finding out after the fact that your bartender thinks your fat is not discrimination. They didn't have to sit in some back corner where no one could see them, they didn't complain about long waits, being ignored by their waiter because they thought they were fat, nothing that actually indicates discrimination.

I have a feeling they usually that's what the usually do, delete it before they print it. The guy probably forgot, very very unfortunate. I can't recall ever giving a waitstaff my name, so no one's ever had to remember my name. If they're the only ones that are going to be seeing it......why would they sit there and think of something that wouldn't offend the person? I'm not saying that the dude shouldn't have gotten flack for letting them see that, not at all. Just saying they weren't discriminated against. They found out the bartender thought they were fat, well if they are??? What you're not supposed to think someone's fat, or skinny, or has a big nose? No I'm not directing that last question at you Robin, that's just a general you.

On one hand I think "well what's the big deal? So what if their bill said fat girls?"

But what if someone gave me a bill titled "short asian"?
If my stature and race is all a business can think about, I probably wouldn't go back to that business.

I think everyone is just way too politically correct. "Plus size" is just a nice way of saying they were obese, which would probably be a more accurate description. They're bummed someone found them fat...take more walks. Maybe they weren't such great customers and it ticked off the person waiting on them. Should they have been handed that receipt, no, and they were right not to pay. If you're stupid enough to do something like this with your customers, and get caught, it's your loss. But this is not discrimination. It's just two fat girls that resented someone calling them the obvious. This all reminds me of a British cooking show: "Two Fat Ladies." So I guess these girls weren't British, otherwise, they may have shrugged it off instead of putting it on the Internet like they were so wronged.....

This is really a management problem. How you assign people tabs is usually by seating arrangement. If someone moves, the seating arrangement needs to be adjusted. I don't doubt that how the way these employees worked is common practice in food services, but it could have been handled better with proper procedures. I don't think any pun was intentional on the part of the staff.

As far as the ladies, or anyone for that matter, getting upset it is natural. But I must agree with Ambrosia, if you don't like how people perceive you, and it is not a physical limitation, you can change it.

There is no doubt that I am much older. I look a bit young for my age, but not 20+ years younger.

I didn't catch it until the next day, when I went through my pockets. I was pre-occupied.

People get very upset when you describe them by unflattering physical comments.

It's a bit like saying waitstaff spitting in the food doesn't hurt them if they don't know about it.

Much better to describe by something like, "3 girls, red shirt" etc.

What did the bartender write it down for? It seems that he's uneducated!

for description purpose. how does a bartender keep track of multiple tabs? "Fat Girls".
