I sold an old Schwinn to a Northwestern student on Monday. When I met her, she was very excited to know that I knew ASL. She showed off her ASL that she knew. I signed with her and asked her how come she knew ASL. She said she worked at a summer camp with kids who are autistic.
I proceed to tell her that one close friend of my girlfriend is autistic. I asked her if my girlfriend or I wanted advice dealing with autism, can we ask you? She said that would be great. I didn't have any questions to ask, but thought maybe my girlfriend may have some questions to ask.
You see, my girlfriend works at elementary school. She does get advices at school for dealing with autism. Therefore, she wasn't interested in asking for advice from my customer.
Now, if you were my girlfriend, would you want advices from my customer? Was I wrong to ask customer if she would offer advices? I hope I didn't make my girlfriend upset or even jealous. I was trying to be helpful, but it may have been hurtful. What do you think?
