Yo guys...

I was just curious about what y'all do for work... or daily... (volunteer/professional couch potato/whatever)..

For me... I'm in Marketing, training to eventually become Manager/Owner.

i'm.... off-duty college student, full-time father, work at walmart recieving team. and home business.
 
I was in Residential Care Support for Deafblind intellectually disabled, but was unemployed for the past 2 months...just today got a new casual job in a warehouse. Doing simplebrained sewing job...better than nothing for now up to Christmas. :)
 
Right now, I am working as an ASL Lab Tutor at Salt Lake Community College. I work there part time.

Once I move to SLC, I will search for a second job.
 
as of january 04 will and hope to have my CDI licence to interp, right now im doing home care for my family, mom got hurt ONCE again!~ :roll: but other than that i should be working by then, and raking in the moola heh!~
 
I work full time at a retail Bead store.. I do warehouse procesing, organizing, i specialize in a type of bead called "seed" and czech republic glass :) Im a key member of our staff, and I feel I am on my way to being a manager. (I've been here a year and a half.) In January I am going to school part time (getting some general ed course out of the way) My major? Im not sure yet - computer graphic design or journalism/creative writing :)

Isn't this thread a repost? I remember a thread from a couple of months ago all about jobs, and I remember Bush_in_2004 insulting us all by saying that he was surprised that there weren't more Disabilty receipents on the boards!!!!! (he thinks that most deaf/hoh people who receive Disabilty are poorly educated illiterate grads of Deaf schools...b/c he thinks that ASL promotes illiteracy. Certainly many Deaf who have ASL as a first language have a poor grasp on English but that's b/c
most ASLers approach English as a second language. Research has clearly and consistantly shown that ASL speakers make the same grammer,and syntaxal errors as do speakers of languages like Spanish, French and Russian. )
 
good qq deafdyke, As far as i know some poeple like him doesn't truly show the aspect of WE'RE doing something rather than making excuses and those who have severe disablities are the ones that don't need to worry abt this whilist the man like bush himself needs to be shot in the azz for that comment. all i can say is, if ur going to shoot us down for our comments of the english grammar and ur telling us ASL is a illerate comment, why don't U urself take that flipping unverisal sign the ,,|,_ U and ram that u p ur Arse cuz u know what it will only prove? a stinkhole with those comments, u won't be making any friends that will respect ur opion cuz ur degrading our english, Deafdyke's right abt one thing. we're not always perfect in our english HELL NO ONE IS! so why don't u HUSH and let us be comfortable with our grammars cuz im no way judging anyone Hell i have a bad typo and no one puts me down for it they do ask for clarification that's important rather than jeering and sneering us like that so please get off the high horse and i ll get off my soap box,

As for those who DO work its cuz they belive in the pride and the american values. I was waiting for the right time and nows the right time and will begin my phase 2 plans :)

I was happy to give up that simplebrained sewing job and move upstairs!!
Thats where the real work is done!!!

I do own small business (internet-related) for almost 7 years and run local deaf association (over 8 yrs).
 
I am a full time police dispatcher, part time student, and volunteer on an ambulance

:rofl: @ redrum! :Oops: :eek2: I don't really mind that job -- it does keep me alert and learn something about the catering filters and so forth. ;)

If they do want me back after Christmas -- it'd be neat to move upstairs a few times here and there so I can learn other things as well. :mrgreen:
 
I was on SSI but wont recieve them again in the first year of Jan 2004 cuz for one ... I am married now and for two.. with my husband's new job.. the income is high. I could care less.. I am not worried about it because my husband have a good paying job. He recieves his raise every year. He got one last month and in May 2004 he will recieve another one. I have tried looking for jobs but no hire available! The last job I had was in 2001-2002 as a stocker at Dollar General. And a few months ago I appiled for Jcpenny's job but they didnt call me or anything! :roll: I am considering about going to college a few months after the baby is born. I do want to be stay at home mom but at the same time I want to provide a better future for my family ya know? I might as well wait until my kid starts school so I can go farther with my education. I want to work with deaf kids. :mrgreen:
 
I'm doing web designer and developer, netrepreneurs, entrepreneurs and at the moment I'm doing a project for the first deaf electronic community portal website and it will be the first of the kind in the world. I’m involved with City Council and other deaf organisations. Watch this space coming soon....A new exciting for the deaf world.....Nada!

Kidding ya!

Actually I'm an inventory specialist for a major Southeastern clothing retailer at its corporate HQ/warehouse complex out in Knoxville. Been at it for nearly 8 years.

Plus I had to take a part time job working at a steakhouse next door on weekends off from the warehouse to collect in some extra $ until the wife can find a job herself.
