Have you tried to make something, that it turned out so badly?
Please do post some of your cooking diaster stories!
Even the best cooks have his own days. Read next post for two of my diasters...

I was getting ready to bake some cookies and I put in all the ingredients. I pinched a bit of the dough for a taste and yuck! It was sooo salty! I was so pissed off, and wondered why it was so salty.

I did a second batch, and indeed, it came out salty again! I was even more furious. I had to throw the cookie doughs away because it was hopeless.

Another night, I wanted to make some sugar covered roasted almonds. I dumped some sugar into this saucepan and let it heat. No matter how long it heated, it would not melt! I realised after a while that the sugar was not melting at all, and that it was burning the saucepan. It was starting to smell weird, like burnt plastic. I rushed and dumped the sugar into one of my favourite bowls, not thinking twice. The hot sugar was so hot that it split my bowl in perfect half. I panicked and dumped it into the sink in cold water.

A week later, Deaf258 was asking me what I did with all the salt in this plastic bag. Horror came over to me and I realised that it was SALT, not SUGAR that caused these cooking disasters! I felt really small and stupid!

The lesson from this?
Always taste the white-looking cubes to tell the difference between sugar and salt!

Disaster

Well I hardly have cooking disasters anymore but there was the time not too long ago when I grabbed the wrong bottle and put BLUE food coloring in the hummingbird food!

Yes.. I have cooking disasters under my belt. I burnt my pumpkin seeds after tasting them..they were half done. I put them back into oven for a few minutes. Somehow, I completely forgot about it. They were burnt. It was not my first time to forgot about some food. RME Burnt pizza, Burnt french fries, so on.

:werd: Good thing that the alarms have reduced greatly this year. So far, we've had only 2 since I've been here at RIT.

I am glad that occurances of fire alarms are reduced at RIT. I never forgot my experiences at SHH building. RME. I thought Tower A was worse than SHH, but it turned out it was SHH during 1999-2000. It was very weird.

I told sometimes I make mistakes and if you don't like my cooking, then I won't cook again!!!! Other time I made chow mein, I putted too much salt.. my mom complained.. because I putted too much weschoriser (spelling?) sauce in it.. oh well.. We all learn from our mistakes....

*** I wish that my parent should have not send me cooking first place when I was started 5 yrs old*** That time My parent were working full time.. (groans)

Hmm.

One time my friend and I were craving for brownies (no, it were not the munchies) and I just happened to have a brownie mix at my home so I was mixing it et cetera. Understand this- I am already a cooking idiot. I failed my Home EC class in 7th grade with a D. BUt this brownie mix saved my life- it had simple instructions on the back, and claimed to be the easiest brownie mix to make/bake.... so I told my friend that I can handle this on my own (Hey, I got a D instead of a F so I must have SOME talents in me!).
One step asked for water to be added... And I was bewildered because it said, "Add 50 cups of water".

yes, 50, fifty.

I asked my friend, "wtf? 50?" She wasn't sure if that was normal but she told me to go ahead and add 5 cups of water because she suspected it was a mistypo.

Hm. We didn't know that 5 cups of water was STILL too much. We eventually found out when we pulled the brownie out after one hour and it was still a brown pond in the pan.

I always have the habit of adding too much water to everything ever since. Err, damn that brownie mix company!

Ever since I only stick with the mircowave. [self-proclaiming "Mircowave Guru]
