A north-west Tasmanian man has been sentenced to four years in jail for raping his infant son and assaulting his wife.
In 1998 the man became upset at his wife and responded by raping his son, who was less than three at the time.
Justice Shan Tennent said the man ruled his family in a cruel and what might be described as a spiritually crazed manner.
She said the man was born deaf and this, combined with his involvement with his church, appeared to have stopped him from fully contemplating the consequences of his actions.
The 35-year-old man will be eligible for parole after three years
