Singer Mindy McCready Hospitalized After Overdose

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 24) - Country singer Mindy McCready was hospitalized after overdosing on antidepressants early Friday following a quarrel with the father of her unborn child. She was in fair condition Friday afternoon, officials said.

According to a police report, McCready and William McKnight were arguing on the phone about whether his parents would help pay for the pregnancy. He cursed at McCready and she became angry and took about 30 antidepressant pills, the report says.

After McKnight called her back and she didn't answer, he called police and an ambulance.

McCready's lawyer did not return a phone message to his office.

McCready, 29, has had a series of legal and personal problems in recent months, including a drunken driving arrest in Nashville, a suicide attempt and an arrest in Arizona on charges stemming from her involvement with a con man she said she was trying to help police catch.

McKnight was also charged earlier this year with trying to kill her. McCready said he punched her in the face and tried to choke her.

Last year, McCready was charged with obtaining the painkiller OxyContin fraudulently at a pharmacy. She pleaded guilty and was placed on three years' probation.

McCready had a No. 1 hit in 1996 with "Guys Do It All the Time."

Wait a min...

How come she isn;t in jail for harming her unborn child?

Is the unborn child okay, after she took all of those pills?

Well, it's better for them to watch the unborn child than to punish the mother when she could simply hurt herself more. I'd rather keep a sick pregnant mother in the hospital under watch than to stick her in jail where she could hurt herself.

Troubled country singer and former Fort Myers resident Mindy McCready is recovering from a drug overdose in a Tampa-area hospital after a failed suicide attempt, her mother, Gail Inge, said Tuesday.

McCready, 28, was found unconscious Friday in a hotel lobby, according to authorities in Pinellas County, Fla. An incident report did not list the drugs involved.

“We were there all weekend with her,” Inge said. “She’s very despondent. Every time she seems to get through something, something else happens.”

Last week, McCready was charged in Arizona with identity theft and other counts. Within the past two years, she has also faced allegations of driving under the influence and illegally obtaining prescription drugs.

In May, McCready’s boyfriend William McKnight was charged with attempted murder and aggravated burglary after breaking into the singer’s home in Nashville and assaulting her. McCready suffered a cut lip, a bruised nose and two black eyes.

McCready is still with McKnight, Inge said. “He was with her all weekend.”

A week before the domestic violence incident, McCready was charged in Tennessee with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.

Dennis Tomlin, who had been her attorney until midday Monday, declined comment on the singer’s situation Monday night except to say the singer has retained another lawyer.

Tomlin said earlier Monday that McCready had gone to Florida “to visit her mother when she found out about the potential charges in Arizona. The stress got to her and she ended up in the hospital.”

He said then that she was in intensive care.

Details concerning the charges filed last week in Mohave County, Ariz., were not immediately available. Besides identity theft, charges against McCready included attempted fraudulent scheme and artifices, unlawful imprisonment and hindering prosecution.

Tomlin said last week that the singer was helping Arizona authorities apprehend a con artist who had bilked her and 35 other celebrities out of large sums of money.

“She did not know that she had been charged … period. She was under the impression that with her assistance in taking down this con artist, that she was free and clear,” Tomlin said.

McCready’s mother, however, said she expects the charges in Arizona to be dropped because her daughter helped authorities to apprehend the con man.

Last year, McCready pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining the painkiller OxyContin at a pharmacy. She was fined $4,000, sentenced to three years of probation and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.

She was scheduled to be in a Williamson County court Monday for a probation violation hearing. A judge ordered Tomlin to produce an affidavit from her doctor by Wednesday.

Once McCready recovers, Inge said she would like to see her daughter return home.

“That’s what I’m hoping for,” she said.

McCready had a No. 1 hit in 1996, “Guys Do It All the Time.”

Where do women find rotten men like this or do they just have to have their sex, no matter who the guy is, so long as he's "got one?" :whip: I don't get it. If she keeps this creep, she deserves to get beat up. I'm sorry, but there are men out there that would treat her like a queen and like a lady, as she deserves to be.

Because, for the most part, the "rich singer" is probably caucasian, not African American, like the people in New Orleans are. It's really sad if you ask me and I know it's not right. Especially when most of these "singers" can't actually sing to begin with.
