How do you have your box set up? What kind of fan or intercooler do you have hooked up to your box?

My box is horizitonal, and i use a Nyko intercooler to keep it cool. I also noticed that the 360 had a vent on the bottom for air. I can see Microsoft added some nugs so air can get in when the box is vertical. But not enough air, IMO gets in to keep it cool. My box (horiztional) is cool, although gets a bit warm on the bottom, and the intercooler fan is warm.

I keep mine vertical since I noticed the discs gets much warmer when it's hortizonal but when playing orginal xbox games on it it's much cooler than xbox360 games.

Same here... I'm going to do that, not vertical anymore.

I looked some more at the 360 and how I set it up horiztionally. I noticed if I placed it completley flat, that there were 2 vents that were not getting air. So i had to use 2 dvd cases as "nubs"(will get something better than dvd cases), thus holding the 360 up while allowing the maximum air flow it needs to stay cool.
It would be perfect if the XBOX360 could hover in place, wouldn't it?

That's why I think vertical is better...

When you place the 360 vertically, the biggest vent will be on the bottom. Yes there are little nugs on the 360's bottom to allow for air to get in and ventilate the system. I feel not enough will get in, which is why I have my 360 horztionally. Despite this, there are 2 smaller vents to worry about when I place it horiztonally. I will sit down later with my laptop and see what Microsoft says about which is better.

First of all, I was used it horizitonal without intercooler for 6 or 7 month till 360 [GRAW] game disc blew my sweet 360 console out.. Suddenly, I took the 360 console back to best buy, they gave me new one, because the replacment plan for two years.. ;)

I put the vertical 360 console include nyko intercooler. I dont see any problem in 360 console so far! but I hate nyko intercooler make noise louder...

but my 360 console has no problem so far.. ;)

the 360 games will hook me up on video games soon since I did not touch the 360 controller nor turn console on videogames for a month or month and half.. or so.. I am focus on family and bmx racing also.. smile

It usually depends on where you put your console. My family tend to put the video game console on the carpet. That's what causes the console to overhead. I put mine on a hard surface that is dust free and clean. :)

*kicks thread up for SableEscort to read since he is new to the 360*
I strongly advise everyone to cover up their systems with a towel or keep it in a glass case when not in use. This will keep dust from bulding up in your system.
Vamp is right, where you place your system makes a big difference. I kept my launch-day PS2 vertically on the floor and it died a little over a year later. I did nothing to cover it up with a towel or such, I neglected it and it crapped on me.

thxs for the kick doc....

Anyways right now I'm getting so really confused with the best positioning of the 360, horizontally or vertically. the first night I had the 360, it was vertical and I had noticed it as just a tad bit warm. Going to try it horizontal this weekend along with attaching the intercooler and borrowing my laptop's USB fan mat to put under the 360 and see if I can get it to run cooler. If the experiment works, time to buy another fan mat ($30 at the best buy)

I also keep the 360's power brick sitting on a piece of tile so I dont burn the floor with it getting hot. (Same strategy applies to the laptop and cablemodem's bricks)

Bro, woooooot! about time you got sweet x-360.. I didn't have to buy some games for X360 in while.. anyway...did you get xbox live??

I have removed my Nyko intercooler from my XBox360. I experienced the'360 shutting down out of the blue a few times while playing(specifically) Tony Hawk's Project 8. I also saw a EB games employee hold the 360 by its cords. I realized how strong the lock was on the 360 power supply. And how loose it was when used with the Nyko Intercooler. Oh well. I'll have to keep my room cool around the ' 360.

The best way to keep the XBOX 360 cool is submerge it in a pool of coolant. ;) Just kidding! By the way, actually best is put in a well ventilated area where there's no heat sources nearby to make it warm. :)

On my 1st 360, I couldnt get the intercooler hooked up straight to it. Plus it was vertical and I started getting my dvd drive problems. Since I got the 2nd one, I kept it horizontal and lying on top of an old cardboard box that is slightly pushed down on top so the 360 gets all its ventilation. Also I kept it under my desk like the pics in the HDTV thread. Also the intercooler is not hooked up to it and its running fine.

I noticed the new 360 isnt so much warmer than the launch 360's even after 8 hours of Ridge Racer 6 last night.

Did you know that the intercooler attached with X360 console, it make console noise as loud... that's werid!

Have you experinces with this??

If we have to have a cooler to keep the Xbox 360 cool, then I don't want it. I rather have a video game console that doesn't need to be cooled.

Just turn AC on and get alot of cool.

I refuse to turn heat on and make me sweat in bed.

If no AC then get fans from store or open the windows (Most in Fall and Winter)
