Matthew 18:19-20 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

His nightmares began each day when he awoke. James Stegalls was nineteen. He was in Vietnam. Though he carried a small Gideon New Testament in his shirt pocket, he couldn't bring himself to read it. His buddies were cut down around him, terror was building within him, and God seemed far away. His twentieth birthday passed, then his twenty-first. At last, he felt he couldn't go on.

On February 26, 1968, he prayed for it all to end, and his heart told him he would die before dusk. Sure enough, his base came under attack that day and Jim heard a rocket coming straight toward him. Three seconds to live, he told himself, then two, then...

A friend shoved him into a grease pit, and he waited for the rocket to explode, but there was only surreal silence. The fuse malfunctioned.

For five hours James knelt in that pit, and finally his quivering hand reached into his shirt pocket and took out his Testament. Beginning with Matthew, he continued through the first 18 chapters.

"When I read Matthew 18:19-20," he said, "I somehow knew things would be alright."

Long after Jim returned home, as he visited his wife's grandmother, Mrs. Harris, she told him a night years before when she had awakened in terror. Knowing Jim was in Vietnam, she had sensed he was in trouble. She began praying for God to spare his life. Unable to kneel because of arthritis, she lay prone on the floor, praying and reading her Bible all night.

Just before dawn she read Matthew 18:19-20. Then she immediately called her Sunday school teacher, who got out of bed and went to Mrs. Harris' house where together they claimed the Lord's promise as they prayed for Jim until reassured by God's peace.

Having told Jim the story, Mrs. Harris opened her Bible to show him where she had marked the passage. In the margin were the words -- "Jim, February 26, 1968."

I don't think we are nearly aware enough of how crucial our prayers are for the lost and hurting. Sometimes we don't get to see the fruit, but God hears and answers our prayers! Don't be discouraged today -- keep lifting your voice in intercession and expect great things! There's so much work to be done!!

It is God-incident. Its very similar like I or I say we experienced. Back in the late 80s. We had our choir performing at the other church where they invited us, in country church. There were some gave their heart to Christ. Afterward, it was dark( its about 2 and half hours from our hometown. It is dark so a guy explained to one of our driver where the shortcut is. Somehow when we left, that driver didn't drive, the other driver is, but didn't warned him about the roads. We had a great chat, somehow, there were no signs, and its pitch black except headlight thru the country road, all of sudden there were sharp turn, he veered sharply and everyone flying around and the van nearly hit the tree and overturn. But miracle, it didn't, its been five min, the driver froze and we were checking each one of us if we are ok, and we were. Then when everything settle, we moved on, then somehow car passed by from opposite directions, not to far down the road, didn't know turn into dirt road, since was dark, it lloks like cut off infront, so he slammed the break, again everyone fly around. All of us were ok, but the driver, want to switch, but before that, we joined hands and pray, suddenly sense of His presence and peace. And we sang (sign lang). When we arrived home, we were puzzled with all those people showed up late hours and wondering. All ran toward us and ask if we are alright and we puzzled and wonder how they know. One lady had a dream which she saw something went really wrong and she called another person, which has similar and more were calling and they arrived the church and prayed together till we arrived. We were so moved. It does happen. God does mysterious ways and we should be thankful for everything He has done. Like the song says IN THE GOOD TIMES, PRAISE HIS NAME, IN THE BAD TIME, DO THE SAME

God-incidence.

I concur! A family friend of ours, years ago when her husband was alive, was awaken to immediately pray for one of her twin sons. He was, indeed, in danger . . . but, to my knowledge, he never told anyone what it was. :gpost:

How do the believers know that it's not a coincidence? The chances of each possible coincidence could be small, but there are many possible coincidences, so generally, some of them happen. It'd be surprising if coincidences never happened.

There were tens of thousands of soliders sent to Vietnam. That particular person's relative knew that he was there, so it's isn't surprising that she prayed on some day. Most people have plenty of relatives who would think or pray about them. Tens of thousands of soliders along with some relatives for each of them would provide plenty of chances for this sort of thing to happen.

That particular verse is in Matthew, which is the first book in the New Testament, so it's not surprising that both the solider and the relative looked at Matthew. And that verse is also well known among religious Christians.

There are also other wars that provided more chances for this to happen for millions of other people. It just so happened that it happened with someone in the Vietnam war.
