Dayton, Ohio Weather, News, Sports and Entertainment WDTN.com, 2 On Your Side News and Weather: Club shows teens being deaf doesn't limit opportunities
More deaf or hard-of-hearing teens are attending "mainstream" schools -- where they may not find other hearing-impaired students they can relate to.
That's where programs come in such as the Deaf Teen Club organized by the Hearing, Speech and Deaf Center of Greater Cincinnati. About 15 youngsters between the ages of 11 and 18 get together for monthly meetings on specific topics.
This month's session was inspired by deaf actress Marlee Matlin's appearances on "Dancing with the Stars." The center used the language of dance to show the kids that they shouldn't let hearing limitations limit them socially or professionally.
