Cingular sends out postcard about Ogo 12/10 deadline

Got a postcard from Cingular today. Read the last paragraph.

A little more Ogo. A lot more Cingular.

We have extended your Ogo service until December 10, 2006.

Cingular's offer for current Ogo users, incl. deaf/HOH

After speaking to two reps at NCCD and receiving an email from that department, here's my understanding of their offers.

"Cingular Wireless is offering two plans specifically for current and recent Ogo users.

The first is $14.99 a month and includes 1000 sms messages and 5mb of wireless internet access. A customer choosing this plan will receive a $75 service credit to the account.

The second plan is $23.99 a month and includes 5000 sms messages and unlimited wireless internet access. A customer selecting this plan and accepting a two year contract will have the option of purchasing a Nokia E62 for $149.99 and will receive an instant rebate for that amount back to the Cingular account or can purchase another Cingular device and receive a $75.00 credit to the account.

The $23.99/month plan will require that a certification of disability form be completed and returned."

That's what was said formally.

I've posted the disability form here: Box.net - Free Online File Storage, Internet File Sharing, RSS Sharing, Access Documents & Files Anywhere, Backup Data, Share Files

I don't know if you have to buy a handset to get the $75 credit on the $14.99/month plan. I guess that any term commitment on the $14.99/month plan will be based on what you're willing to pay for a handset.

The two NCCD reps I spoke with said that the E62 'rebate' will be a credit to your Cingular account, posted after you've kept the E62 beyond the 30-day return/exchange period. The initial purchase of the device will be by credit card or other method (I don't think they'll just add it to your current Cingular bill, but you can ask).

FYI: I was told that AIM conversations are considered text messages, not data. So, consider that when deciding on 1000- or 5000-message plans.

Finally, it's about time.

I've been having a hard time with my friends who still use Ogo. They don't get my messages very well. I don't get their messages. Messages are sent and received too late. When it happens, they blame everyone else and not themselves.

When I saw an Ogo up close in person, first thought came to my mind was "Fisher Toys"

Sorry to those folks that like or love using the Ogo will be losing thier services soon.

One main reason I heard folks using Ogo was the low monthly cost compare to other wireless devices and I can't blame them since all providers require you to have a voice plan with your data wireless devices costing you a big monthly bills.
