Christian parents everywhere have been up in arms over the Harry Potter series and for good reason. Deuteronomy 18:10-14 is the banner under which all reasoning behind the obvious nervous reaction to these books and subsequent movies wave. We, as God fearing, loving parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and all, have been running fitfully in front of J. K. Rowling, and whatever she may have to dish out next, protecting our children. With just cause, we are appalled by her relentless and eerily accurate depictions of witchcraft, spells and dark arts. She is declaring to our youngsters that this is merely harmless fantasy, when in stark reality witchcraft is a sin and no one will go blameless before the Lord who practices it. It is only just and right that we have the righteous urge to shield our children from practicing such acts and are worried they will become involved in things that God strictly forbids.

Negative - As an English teacher, i have been forced to teach on the first few films of the HP series. The first movie i previewed actually made me feel quite sick. There was a certain spirit about the film, one that was indescribable. This is out of character for me as i rarely suffer from great fear, even in the face of some real demonic experiences i've had. The bible claims that Satan can appear as an angel of light. He is indeed a deciever, and the way that the students react and talk about the movie scares me. I have even heard of students who want to try out the spells used in the film. This movie is a subtle introduction into the realms of witchcraft and the demonic. Witchcraft is a practice that is fast becoming an accepted religion in our society. The status of witchcraft is changing and being seen by many as good such as in the case of a white witch. In the garden of Eden, Satan made the fruit appealing to Eve, he manipulated and soothed her into a mindset of compromise, and she trusted him. Do not trust these stories. For those of you comparing the story, or any characters with Jesus or any biblical account, God commands us not to use his name in vain, that is do not use his name to justify your own viewpoint, sin or lack of conviction. I recntly presented to a group of my peers, some ways in which i could present "The Passion" to Senior students and use it to fulfill the requirements of the syllabus. I was told that the movie was extremely offensive, and i was being insensitive and should'nt drag my beliefs into the classroom. It seemed to be okay for them to force myself and the students to study HP which is also a highly controversial film but not The Passion that teaches about real sacrifice and real love. Satan is using the school system to decay christian morals and to make compromise look innocent. I am begging parents to be open-minded, take a stand and reject compromise. This movie is offensive to the gospel and parents need to stop it from being studied in schools.

Negative - (from a commentor who has not viewed the film) - I am apalled! Witchcraft in any form is found evil in God's Eyes! When I was in school several years ago my teacher decided she wanted to read a HP book to us. As she read I felt a strong sense of evil flow through the room, and I was compelled to pray not only for myself but for my peers as well. I told the teacher I was not willing to listen to such books and said I was going to stand outside. Satan has done a wonderful job presenting himself as innocent fun entertainment through these books. Witchcraft is classified under the occultic section everywhere but did you know the definition of the word "occult" is: to be done in the dark and to be hidden. God does not do things in the dark and does not live in the dark. Satan is Real and HE DOES DEAL IN THE DARK! Through Satan witchcraft is Real! If Satan can preform "miracles" in the guise of light what makes you think he can't stick his hand in a thriving occultic practice and show wonderous sights and preform things to be believed as only good? This movie/book deals with the core evil of witchcraft but veils it with frilly subjects such as love, trust, and companionship. Satan has and will continue to show himself in this manner of "good entertainment" and "no ill will with witchcraft" but remember he is still behind it nontheless. I implore you to turn from Satan's lies. Remember before you just dismiss my comments the only good way to see if I speak the truth is to check with God and his word. I encourage you to do so for God say to do it. I am very frightened by how easily the devil is weaving his way into society with only this one outlet. Please call upon God for his opinion on this before subjecting yourself to these occultic and even blasphemous ( I am not refering to language but to the underlining themes) movies and books at times.

Myself, I think some of people had too much fear instilled into them. People need to learn more about self-control rather than getting all frightened by a fictional story.

It can be dangerous for a person to have this much fear instilled within itself.
 
Well, if you watched the third movie... you'll remember the quote, "There is nothing to fear, but fear itself." These people need to get a life! :crazy:

I don't believe it applied to all Christian people, since I am one of them and I see nothing wrong with ANY Harry Potter movies....

I'm not a big fan of Harry Potter but my children are....

Of course it doesn't apply to all of the Christians. I know of many Christians who are interested in the world of Harry Potter. But there are quite a number of these people who truly believe that Harry Potter is... evil.
 
Hahahahahaha! I love to read these reviews, it always give me plenty of good chuckles. I know few JW folks, they told me that Harry Potter is bad and full of evil because of magics.

I should've tell them when I have a chance but Disneyland shows are full of magics and witchcrafts either.. What about Alladdin? What about Snow White? Many more.. Yet they approved these shows, it does not make sense.

Want to hear something even more ridiculous?

Lenny the Shark from the recent released CGI animated film, SharkTale. AFA and several supporters attacked the movie for having a homosexual agenda because Lenny is a vegetarian who is "afraid" to come out of the closet to his father who happen to be a mafia boss. Yes, I can see where people would get the idea of homosexuality, but this is ridiculous.

Plus, they also tried to use the fact that Lenny painted himself to look like a Dolphin as an example of cross-dressing!

Again, I can see where they get the ideas. But it doesn't directly tell you to accept homosexuals. So, to these who agree with AFA, keep your day job because being a conspiracy theorist really don't get you anywhere.

They take "witchcraft is evil, therefore Harry Potter is evil" way TOO serious. Come on, people, it's only a fantasy! :roll:
 
I am the Christian. I do know about this Harry Potter book. But, JK Rowling told us is that real book? She say no! She had a faithful. Look, I do not real alike wizard or witchcraft at all. I never use Witchcraft anymore. I don't want that part of this. Because I do not believe there is no real magic. How? Because I had my stuff thing for magic trick. Harry Potter book is fiction which mean there is no real true happen. But, one thing that I had remain history and long year ago in US America history told that the 3 witchcraft. They 3 witchcraft died. Because of police or govern or judge whatever want to killed her. They don't want to be evil witchcraft. That is ture story happen into history. Do you believe a vampire, Ghost, or etc? There one of "Ghost" was believe. It called Ghost Hunter. Yes it a real ghost yes. But, about this reading book is only fiction mean not real true story. They are just pretending and imagine. Like Lord of the Ring is not real true story. They are fiction. Sometime the reading book can be some of true story. But, now Harry Potter book is not real. I know that the parent need to teach the children and understand not to control the witchcraft. I never use witchcraft anymore. Trust me! I am very strong Christian and study!
 
Scottw, sorry but I am bit confused with your post. Are you trying to say that you used or tried to use the witchcraft before? Since you used that word, "anymore" in your sentence so I made a assumption that you did used the witchcraft.

About 3 witchcraft, is it about witches themselves? If so, history often to portrayed the 'witches' as evil. When I research bit more, I found out more that pilgrims took too far with some women who practices in herbology... In that time, pilgrims were taught that herbology is evil. That's ignorance and sad...

These witches that you spoke of are probably innocent but again, who knows?
 
Umm, sorry "anymore" is my wrong. I don't like Witchcraft at all. No way! If I become Witchcraft, that is very evil! I do not like witchcraft at all.

Yes, I knew that I reading the U.S America History talk about 3 Witches died. Because of their who police, governer or etc sentence to 3 witches to kill. You know like 3 witches put on circle ropes and dead. Because of witch try to explain to them. But, it very dangerous. So, Witch is practice called prophecy. Sometime it true or not.

My life it didn't matter how I died. I am happy to go home with Heaven. God can communication when God call me warning happen my life future. I am sorry that my English was mistake "anymore" Sorry! I just like reading book is called Mystery mean fiction science, magical, and etc. I don't think it was not interesting the sacred and worse of like Alien, monster. I don't like it. But, I like mystery is okay for me to reading book. I do not believe that I am not real witch at all and I am not real magic. There is no real magic. But, that Witch is practice of Here....
