Cheri's Brass Balls

I called Salon Beauty to make an appointment for my son's haircut. The lady hung up on me with Relay Service. I called her again to ask her nicely to wait until I am finished to set up the date and time. She hung up on me. I was perplexed and called other lady to see if someone there who can help with me to make an appointment. The same lady had been nasty attitude to the Relay Service operator. She said, do not ever call here again ! I was shuddered to see her nasty attitude. I kept the TTY paper conversation to make it copy and fax to National Association for the Deaf via ADA. ADA office called the owner of the Salon Beauty.

Know what… the owner fired the lady for impatient to communication with Deaf customer with a Relay Service. Unbelievable, how rude the hearing people talked with Deaf customers.

I did not go to that Salon Beauty which my son and I agreed to choice another place instead of this place. That give us creepy with people who have nasty attitude to the Deaf customers.

*shaking my head* cant believe people are still doing it!........Guess we deafies will never be accepted in this so called hearing world! sheeesh!

Good for you Cheri. I guess the girl learned her lesson, but her hatred/ignorance will increase multifold and influence other hearies to hate deafies too.

I would probably have done it very differently. I would have just smiled and remain parked in the drive thru. I would invoke the ADA law and say if you are calling the police, they will catch you breaking the law. Usually, the manager comes by and then I smile. I would say "would you please instruct your cashier to serve a deaf customer in drive thru?" and then the manager would be like of course and tell the girl to do it. I hate making confrontations, and I have had this incident happen 2 times with me which I did all this as I said above. Problem solved. Dont want an employee to be fired just because she was uninformed about the law requirements of providing equal access to deaf and HOH customers.

This only works with people with brains!!!! If she kept her job she would only do the same again. She is ignorant and no amount of being nice will make her understand your rights. People like that are rude to anyone that is different and deserve a job cleaning toilets!!! My hearing hubby says that ignorant people in fast food joints are rude to everyone including hearing!!!
