Funny you should bring this up! Last night I was perusing LV deals via hotels.com and I distinctly remember seeing the info on the Sahara. I liked the rooms in the 50 buck range better...certain tower there, can't remember. Gotta convince/discuss this with the other couple we are going with. How close is it to the Sands? I think it is close....Thanks for that URL...will use it now.

About a mile and half north.

1.5 miles far to Sands Expo convention center.

other hotel - Tuscany Suites & Casino is little cheaper as $26 a night. Rate is 3.5. 0.6 mile far to Sands Expo. Tuscany Suites & Casino (Las Vegas Nevada) - Search KAYAK for Great Rates

But don't matter to choose any hotels if you can afford.

Hard to beat considering the rooms are 600 square feet! Note: there is a 10.00 per night plus tax RESORT FEE so you have to figure your nightly 26.00 as 36.00 plus. Still cheap and if staying a week, the larger room is great, at least for me.

So we could just go the the Sands via a back street and not drive down the Strip if we stay at the Sahara.

What I would like to see is the new City center. Off topic....

could drive down sahara to the east to paradise road. Not far at all, It borders sahara hotel. down a mile, then half mile west to Sands on country club lane. Easy drive.

The New City center is still in works. Its a bit south. South of Bellagio.

I believe City Center is open now but maybe not all of it. I did see Aria and the other hotel (Adara, I think) prices. There's even some parts (probably upper floors) that are residences for sale, ranging from 1,000 sq ft. to around 4,000 sq ft.

Yep, some buildings are open now, but the general area is not finished yet.

Just so you know, it's the BIGGEST private invested property in value ever. At 11 billion dollars... Jeez

Put Wynn to shame, huh?

Ok, I'm liking the Tangiers Tower at the Sahara.....Premium non-smoking room at 42 bucks per night, a bit more for Friday....184 bucks including taxes for 6 nights.

11 Billion dollars to build city center.....dang that is tough to comprehend that kind of money. How would they ever recover that investment to make any revenue out of that?

The same way Las Vegas has grown for all these many years: From suckers like us!

300+ mil of profits in two weeks. enough said.

Not surprised. I was talking to someone (a blackjack dealer, I think) at the Excalibur about 12 yrs ago and at that time, they needed to clear a million a day just to break even and given that there's close to 150 casinos there now and it is 12 yrs later, 300 mil sounds very plausible....maybe even conservative.
