BORDEAUX, France (Reuters) - The mayor of a village in southwest France has threatened residents with severe punishment if they die, because there is no room left in the overcrowded cemetery to bury them.

In an ordinance posted in the council offices, Mayor Gerard Lalanne told the 260 residents of the village of Sarpourenx that "all persons not having a plot in the cemetery and wishing to be buried in Sarpourenx are forbidden from dying in the parish."

It added: "Offenders will be severely punished."

It's understandable that the cemetery is getting full but, I think it is absurd to punish a dead person just because they are dead. How would they punish a dead person, anyway? Oh, perhaps it'd be aimed at the dead person's family to take the rap for it, who knows?

The creator of that law was probably not thinking when he/she wrote it.

That's why they have "dumb laws". ;)
 
Could the punishment be that he will not be buried inside the city or town limit. or cremation.

LOL... but to punish the dead.. he will have some ghost on his tail...

Suppose the punishment is feeding bodies to animals or cannibalism :eek:

Yeah, For the life of me - dumb laws should have been outlawed but it isn't. :sure:
 
What are they gonna do, put dead people in jail? Geez!


I have always wondered about stuff like that ..will the earth run out of places to bury people? Maybe we shouldnt be buried in coffins..just throw us into the hole and let us decay to become a part of the earth? LOL! I am sick, I know...my brain is fried so I get crazy thoughts. :giggle:

It is too taboo for human beings. I dont mind sacrificing my body for nature. Hell, I signed up as organ donator.
 
Does the mayor think that people can choose where and when to die? I'd like to see him try to punish a dead person to see what his idea of punishment is for people who won't even know that they're getting it. I wonder if he would do that to dead animals too and end up beating dead horses.
 
Hmm what about cremation as another choice? That's absurd of the mayor telling people not to die. Yes one of the day the earth will have no more room for burials. Do the math, 6 billion people living, and when they die, where will the body go? No room, so one of the day the cremation will be the only choice? :dunno:
 
No! That law has merit. Look at the facts. Do you folks know just how many people are dead in that cemetery?
 
No one wants to guess how many people are dead in that cemetery?
