Carbonite or other site for backups?

At work, only company servers which are not public accessible anyway. I use memory sticks to back up any data I submit on my laptop. I believe it's only a matter of time til we hear about cloud servers being hacked... smh

Yep, I think I'll stick with external hard drive or memory stick as back up.

Hackers love to test out any servers they target.

I use external HD, flash drives and DVD's for backups but I don't keep enough up-to-date storage offsite. It's still in my house, so it's not a true back up. The only real backups I have on DVDs are of my genealogy work. My brother keeps a copy in another state, and my daughter has a copy at her house.

Does anyone here have experience with or recommendations for any cloud backup services such as Carbonite?

I used to have Dropbox. Hear of that? I haven't used it in a while, though, although my current tablet does have it on there. :hmm: Don't need it, anyways. Like the others, a good old memory stick works best. I'd recommend getting a 32 or 64 GB stick, and a weather proof safe. I have a fire proof safe, so those kinds work well.

We keep it in a safe box but it's a small one, not fireproof.

I've used Dropbox at school but I don't know if that's the same. I need wayyyy more memory than those size sticks. I have a 1TB external HD. I have lots of photo files. Lots. :)

It's a good idea to have at least one fireproof safe. They're not cheap, but they WILL withstand most fires. Let me go downstairs and snap a photo of the one I have. It's one of the best there is out there.

Here's the one I own. I'd had it for many years-- 11 years. Never failed me.

The next generation will never have heard of a photo album. All photos are stored electronically. Photo albums do take up alot of space. I was looking at my photo albums and thinking all that space it's taking.

That's why I want to scan them all, organize them, and save them. I have numerous, huge Rubbermaid bins full of family photos, some going back to the 1800's. Then there are documents from over the last 100 years that need to be scanned. Whew! I also have old family movie films to record as DVD's.

Are you sure digital media would actually be fireproof in there? It doesn't look much different from mine.

It never failed you? How many fires has it been thru?

It came in a box with a firefighter holding it during a fire. That's how I know.

No fires yet *knocks on wood*, but it is pick resistant.

Well, then good thing it's locked in a storage container that requires a key to get in. Now those you can't pick. It's one of those tall wide ones.

It is still not safe place, so that's fact.
