Car safety tip!! Be warned!

High tech stuff is bound for easy hack with theives. I prefer the old fashioned stuff that makes it more difficult to unlock the car quickly, also the good ol pedal lock which you can't use the accelerator when you're trying to depart.

If you live in Phoenix, good luck! The car theft is one of the highest in the country. Seattle metro area ranks in the top ten as well lot of prowling with valuables in the car. Best is to keep them out of sight and lock your cars to reduce the chances.

I'm disappointed that Joe Arpaio hasn't solve the car theft epidemic since he's too busy to crack on immigrants.

Jiro, any comment about his comment on OEM, eh?

For me? I dont trust OEM alarm system because they are almost same for all models which not good and thief knew where module are. GM is EASY one for tech auto to troubleshooting and that's mean easy for thief. So finally onstar is almost solve a problem for GPS trace and engine won't start if you removed the OnStar for newer vehicles. So use aftermarket alarm system and really good brand and thief don't know where they are. Ask to Smogtech. He HATE aftermarket alarm system because he can't figure it out or where it is.

that's not what this thread is about. this thread is about a Code Grabber via remote keyless entry.... not some thief breaking into your car and finding a module to to do some hotwiring.

yea like lojack.

Umm no. Old fashioned are super easy than tech for unlocked due no alarm noise, no lock out computer, dirty CHEAP tool as hanger metal, few tools. The tech are expensive for parts and hard to find a programmer skill for break it.

pedal lock? No problem! Portable torch acetylene cut it in 20 seconds or less and portable can fit in your backpack.

Not every thief would carry tools around because not everyone has the same stuff. Carrying stuff around makes them look like a suspect. High tech stuff is easy to carry around. One of the BEST high tech anti loss device is the GPS with call home feature. Here's one story, a theif stole a 1999 Honda Civic Si with aftermarket parts in Seattle and brought it to Tacoma, WA to a chop shop to take it apart to sell it in a black market. Guess what happened? Cops came and busted 8 people!

it's easy to carry tools... just hide them in your backpack or deep pocket or in the pants. it's just 1 or 2 tool. the most common tool is a screwdriver.

lol.... they ARE criminals, not suspects.

typically - people who would have this high-tech stuff is part of an organized gang. high-tech stuff is not easy to obtain. takes quite a money and resource to obtain one.

If someone is walking around with a backpack in a parking lot, that's what makes them look like something is waiting to happen.

many people carry backpacks....

One think that does not made sense about this , if someone trying to break into the car why didn't they wait until the owner of the car was no where near their car before unlocking it ? That only drawn attention to people trying steal the stuffs in the cars.

I when to the beach years ago with a friend and we both left our pocketbooks in my friend car and we covered then up with something . When we got back to the car about 3 hours later someone had tried to break in by priding the door open and the door was bended rather badly . People would just go to parking lot and watch what women did with their pockets or men with their wallets. My friend had a good heavy car so it was not broken into . We where lucky .

Many? Usually bicyclists and bums, maybe city hikers.

nope. pretty much all parking lots I've been to.. I see many people carrying backpacks.

parents.... college students... high school punks.... etc.

:laugh2: So all students, tour, motorcycles, bicycles, and businessmen are suspect because they carry backpacks. That's so silly! They are almost ANYWHERE around Chicago and QC that I see so far. That's right, most businessmen wear backpage over briefcase. Why? Easy to carry at long walk, two free hands which easy for hold mobile or coffee or newspapers or hold on the bar for train/bus. Plus I carry backpack a lot for myself as student, ride a motorcycle, and old IT job (macbook, network tester, tools, etc)

Already explained about GPS trace. Same thing but you can add OnStar for any cars (around 90's or newer), not just GM.

See GPS trace still better than old fashioned.

GM only have one radio for everything as unlock/lock/start which not good news for theft and easy to clone their remote radio.

Most newer Japanese and some america(Sad, GM do not have one) alarm system have two chips (one for long range and one for short range) That's mean long range for unlock/lock only and one for short range as start engine only.

I am sure theft can clone your remote radio due long range like 50ft or whatever. But short range as 5 ft and made theft hard to clone your remote's chip or RFID. Only way to get theft CLOSE you like 5 ft to clone it. So two radios are better than one radio for alarm system.

not likely. the remote key uses rolling codes.

Dont forget he is mechanics and I am sure he heard plenty of stories on daily basis and has network of friends whos mechanics, just like myself heard plenty of stories about VRS ON daily basis and many of my friends works for VRS.

And yes, he is right Ford is one of top list of stolen vehicle, my truck was one of top. Damn it.

Even with rolling codes, since they are in mass production, meaning too many are out there making it easier for crooks to figure out how rolling code works, once they figure out BAM, it don't take much for them to steal cars.

The best vehicle for security purpose is Yugo! Who wants to steal them? Also clunkers too, car thieves don't want bother stinky lousy cars thinking there isn't much valuable in it and embarrassing to drive around in clunkers.
