Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene was indicted by a grand jury in Columbia today on charges he showed pornography to a University of South Carolina freshman months before he became the upset - some say bizarre - winner of the party’s nomination in June.
The indictment names two charges against Greene: a felony for disseminating, procuring or promoting obscenity, and a misdemeanor of communicating obscene materials to someone without consent. If convicted, Greene could face up to three years for the misdemeanor or up to five years for the felony.
Greene, 32, was arrested in November - long before he first was considered a candidate - when authorities said he approached a female freshman from Summerville in computer lab, showed her obscene photographs that were online, and talked about heading to the woman’s dorm room.
Reached at his home in Manning by The Post and Courier, Greene declined comment. “My lawyer is dealing with that,” he said. Then, seemingly annoyed at media phone calls, he blurted “That’s it,” before hanging up.
His attorney Eleazer Carter of Columbia, said this afternoon he had not been formally told of the indictment by the Solicitor’s Office but that he was not surprised to hear it was coming. “I probably suspected that it would be,” he said.
COLUMBIA -- U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene was kicked out of a restaurant after police said a woman accompanying him got into a fight with county Democratic Party members holding a meeting there, police said Tuesday.
Oconee County Democratic Party officials had asked Greene, 32, to speak at their monthly meeting Saturday at Jimmy's Restaurant in Seneca. That invitation was rescinded after the unemployed military veteran was indicted Aug. 13 on a felony charge of showing pornography to a college student.
On Tuesday, Seneca Police Chief John Covington said Greene showed up at the meeting anyway, and a woman with him got into an argument with people at the restaurant.
Party officials called police, who said the owner of the restaurant kicked out the pair and ended the party's meeting. No charges were filed, and police said no tickets were issued. ...
HICKS: The joy of political interviews | The Post and Courier, Charleston SC - News, Sports, EntertainmentIf you didn't catch Alvin Greene on MSNBC with Lawrence O'Donnell, well, you missed a masterpiece of modern politics.
Let's just say Greene was, in campaign parlance, on message.
After introducing South Carolina's Democratic Senate nominee, O'Donnell tried to get the sometimes-shy Greene to open up.
He was not successful.
O'Donnell: There's a first question that all Senate candidates have to answer this year and that is, are you a witch?
Greene: No. First, I want to remind everyone that DeMint started the recession.
O'Donnell: There you go -- you're on your talking points. Not a witch and DeMint started the recession. Now in high school, I'm told, your nickname was Turtle. Where did that come from and does that tell us anything about where this race might end up?
Greene: DeMint started the recession. DeMint is responsible for the recession. And I'm the best candidate that defines where we're at right now in this country.
O'Donnell: Now I know people tell you whatever the question, just do your talking points and all that sort of stuff. But seriously, Alvin, your nickname, Turtle, where did that come from?
Greene: No.
O'Donnell: No?
Greene: Like I said, DeMint started the recession.

I don't think there's any chance that Alvin would get nominated.Oh wow, if he runs as republican so Obama will win by landslide.![]()
