You know... they're actually coming out with a Pixar movie should be VERY soon. Like any day now! They released the trailer a couple months ago...

yes, that's right, its not a turbocharger, it is a supercharger, but even in this film it is fictional, because superchargers are normally fixed, on at all times, from zero to redline...but there have been developments in the last 10 or so years (Merc Benz, and couple others) have done a electric 'switch'...and there's another kind of turbo but not exhuast gas-driven, rather its belt driven much like the supercharger...its called 'procharger' a bit of a gimmick, but they claim it has best of both worlds, the efficiency of the turbo and the elimination of 'lags' with the belt...but i dunno...:dunno:
havent seen a procharger in NZ, well not yet...

Our son-in-law had a Ford Probe GT. All the time he complained about the turbo problems. He could not wait to trade it in. His current ride is an Infinity G37. No need for a turbo.

My Jeep's 5.7 Hemi is now up to 350 hp. A supercharger would add 100 hp. Less maintenance than a turbo. :dance2:
 
Only ever hadd one car with a turbocharger and that was a Land rover Discovery Diesel - so it probably doesn't count :)

Never been a huge fan of TurboCharging, it's always seemed to me to be an easy way to drastically shorten the life of an engine. I think Honda have always dismissed TurboCharging as "Easy Engineering".

On the other hand, companies like SAAB and Subaru, who admittly know a thing or two about Turbocharging, have managed to produce some very good turbo'd cars that go on to do Interstellar mileages..

Some cars do need the benefit of a Turbo though. I remember driving an Army normally-aspirated Diesel Defender with 11 people in it and towing a full trailer. Top towing speed was rated at 60kph. I don't think we ever even got close to that :)

Maybe he don't change oil or air filter so often that cause turbocharger short life. Never turn engine off immediate when turbocharger was too hot or bearing/oil will burn. Let it idle like 5 min to cool turbocharger down then shut engine down. Or probably Ford thing.

Supercharger is more maintenance than turbocharger. Why? Turbocharger use same oil as motor. Supercharger don't.
 
A car with a turbocharger isn't as reliable as a regular naturally aspirated car due to more frequent oil changes, keep it running for 5 minutes in idle before shutting it down. Yes, there is a timer to have it shut down automatically when you have to leave the car right away. It is nice to have one for a little more oo mph like the Subaru WRX STi. I love the throttle response and the handling of the car. One of the best around.

My deceased friend's father had a 1986 Saab 900 Turbo, pretty fast little car for its time! It finally broke down at 326,000 miles on it.

Yep, Sti have auto shut down after 5 min. It was pretty neat and less problem.
 
Never had a turbocharged anything till I came here....:lol:
