You said it wasn't a Wow situation for you......You are entitled to that opinion...But it is a "Wow situation" for many hardworking middle and low income families.

Like I said - the life isn't easy, period.

If you can't afford to pay high gas price so time for you to use public transportation or change your plan to make convenience to you, or look for more income.

Yeah, I have seen 4.70 at few gas station around here. Thank god, my work is only 2 miles from here.

Why are you shocking? no alternatives?

We had $5 per gal in 4 years ago and we see again this year because problems with oil companies that where they have to maintain the oil pipe, oil refineries, etc.

I have other idea - go buy car with alternative energy.

I can't help to lower the gas price and it is about speculation.

Am I the only one who wonders why people still drive these things? Seems kind of insane to unless you have a lot expendable income.
 
That ol' saying..."it's such a comfort to take the Bus...and leave the driving to us!"....is getting better and better....That is, until the Bus Companies have to stop running because of the gas crisis....and they have been jacking up their fares.....I've never rode the City Bus...but have heard that it takes up to 4 hours to get to the other side of town, (where I Live) and having to transfer to 4 buses to reach their destination.....

Yup, the public transportations are horrible in southern states, even bus schedule in Birmingham is very horrible, just like you say about 4 hours to other place.

Miami metro is only metro in Florida that have better public transportation, since rest of cities like Orlando and Tampa are no good.

For me, I rather to drive over public transportation, despite about high gas price.

Power, room, price. Trust me those little electric cars (I have one) are no fun on long trips or through the mountains. Also no fun when going to the golf course with three or 4 sets of clubs. I also believe the electric cars pose a greater risk to the environment in the long run.

really? Why is that? my son's 14, I'll be done paying my car off in about a year so I've been planning on hanging on it to and giving it to him when he's 16 and buying a new one. Thinking about a hybrid next time, crossing my fingers I'll be making more money by then and can get one lol. Should be, just got to sit down and try to watch my CE course DVD on neuromuscular therapy .....that has no captions. ugh I have been procrastinating badly on that.

Back when my family lived in our former house, we had neighbors across the street from us that we all knew were responsible for breaking in and stealing from homes in the neighborhood. Thank Christ it was never our home that got hit - I think it may have been a combination of things like good fortune, my grandmother who was always there, and our Golden, that barked often if someone came near. It didn't stop them though from coming to our home and stealing gas from our car while we were away at church. I couldn't get over the nerve of people to steal from a neighbor - and they grew up with my brother too. I hate people like this...with the gas prices rising, and unlikely to go down anytime soon, this will be more common.

You'd think bike riding would be a safe alternative but at our train (commuter rail) station nearby in Salem, we've had a rash of thieves stealing bicycles right off the racks. How low can you possibly get?

Agreed, but there's drawbacks to everything though. Hybrids has no re-sale value because the battery is so expensive after the warranty expires. The cars themselves often have waiting lists to buy, no real room, expensive to purchase, expensive to maintain when the warranty goes - imagine the cost for electric cars. I'm reminded that when the Olympic games came to Beijing, there was a mandate that no one could drive leading up the event. The point was to improve the air quality - which it did. Unfortunately, people went back to driving afterwards. How much better would all our lives be if we rode bikes, walked or took public transportation? We'd probably get healthier right along with our environment. If the oil giants saw that we weren't going to condone their tactics and find another solution - gas would be cheap again. No doubt about it, we live in interesting times.

$3.75 in here. simple solution for Californians - either move to where gas is cheaper... or get a motorcycle/bicycle. you've got nice weather all years around. *shrug*
 
That why I'm no fan about hybrid/electric car.

I prefer F-250 truck with diesel. ;)

In bold - the relocation isn't option for everyone.

but other options that you mention - good.
 
electric cars are no good. hybrids make better sense but it's no good if your commuting is mostly on highway or hilly road.
