Californians hit with unprecedented gasoline price jump

Feinstein is calling for a Federal Investigation now. And Gov. Browne is calling for an early release of California's winter blend.

California gas prices rise to all-time high prompting calls for federal probe | Fox News

This is nuts, some of the FB comments I'm seeing on there... They have NO CLUE why this is happening. And yet gasoline in gold/silver terms is historically cheaper today than it was from 1990-on. During this time, silver bought 4-6 gallons of gas per troy ounce, and the interim peak hit 12 gallons per ounce. Today, after the CME-margin-call-triggered collapse of the silver futures at COMEX, it's resting around 8-10 gallons per ounce. There is expectation of silver returning to about $40 by the end of the year, and possibly $50 in May next year, but I believe it may not get there until about May 2014, if current manipulation patterns hold over time. However, we have a big black swan coming to land quickly in Europe, and that could force gold and silver up ahead of my time table.

The Ron Paul Gasoline Index - Business Insider

I believe I explained this earlier in an earlier gasoline thread.

Question is, why is gasoline cheaper in gold/silver terms, but more expensive in US Dollar terms?

The federal investigation being called is a distraction to keep you from realizing that our Federal Reserve System needs to be looked at, as it IS the cause of our currency problems.

I don't want this to turn into a political discussion, but a monetary discussion as to why Californians are having to pay $6 a gallon for gas. Since we can't discuss politics here, I would think that we can at least discuss the monetary means by which politicians use to yank our chains here and there, how it works, and what we can do to change this to our favor.

Is this okay, moderators?

Okay...

Here is an article from Der Spiegel, a German publication that is online.

And then to understand how inflation can impact material assets like real estate, especially if you are an average person trying to survive waves of rich people who invade your areas and drive up rent and taxes:

Soon we're going to be dealing with gas like a drug dealer... I can see it now:

"psst, I got the stuff for your car man"

Interesting stuff, I mostly drive in the city, my work is the farthest I drive and that's 12 miles, and about 5 miles of the is on the highway. I live in SC.....there are no hills. So a hybrid still might not be a bad choice, or maybe I'll stick with a smaller car that has good gas mileage.

I had a Mercury Topaz that ran on diesel when I was in highschool, I cannot tell you how many times a gas station came running out screaming "you're putting diesel in your car!!!!!" At that time diesel was a little cheaper than regular too, I remember filling up for 99 cents a gallon. sigh

Not sure when that was you are talking about. But back in I think it was the 1970's a co-worker that was on the road a lot pulled up in at Mercedes 240D! They had been leasing top of the line Pontiacs but he found a deal on the Mercedes that was less per month (but a 3 yr. rather than 2 yr. lease) and at the time diesel was about 10¢ a gallon cheaper. I don't remember what the common per gallon price for both fuels was though.

yay - now gas price's dropping

You notice it doesn't drop as much as it goes up? This is seasonal, and it helps that it happens at about the same time the election is underway. Nonetheless, I'll take any price decline I can get. I think my station is running at 3.39 at the moment. I'm about to take a trip to a ren faire within the month. It would help if it would drop even further.

I know its dropping alittle but STILL.

Summer vcations are over so it's gonna drop lower, less long distance driving...however, just read our News for today in my City, and gas theft from cars is rampant in one part of my city.

it will continue to drop more next month.

X-nay-it. I had to go ahead and get gas today ($3.19), as I just read this morning that the east coast refineries are shut down. I chided myself for not seeing this, as I was so focused on sticking to budget. As soon as I read that, I said, "Hell with it," and hot-footed it over there before they would change the prices.

I filled the gas in my car for $2.87 at military base in last morning.
