I want to build my own new custom desktop from scratch and I am no expert on hardware. So I wondering if any of you would provide good hardware parts based on your knowledge. I want a fast computer and I am a hardcore gamer, upgradeable hardware, and replacement hardware. I don't want to buy desktop from the store. I already have a LCD 21" monitor. What do I need to start with? Post your comments. :)

I have 7-year Sony Viao cpu in my stoage. I never used it now but I need to replace updated Intel Duo 2 processor, add gb memory and second hard core.

You can buy pieces from newgg.com or something -- Jiro bought some bits and pieces for his computer for under $500
 
ah.... so you want a complete new machine... for that - it's usually cheaper to buy it from dell/hp than to build it yourself.

yep... it cost some money to build it but to upgrade - I can simply replace some parts. For mine - I have to replace my comp with new mobo + CPU + RAM but i'm able to keep tower and the other hardware such as video card, sound card, dvd burner, hdd, etc....

first time will be expensive but after that..... it's upgrade all the way which is cheaper....

If price is over $500 for updated. I may purchase new Dell desktop computer.

Old classmate of mine from high school stated that he bought one few weeks back this year, for $3,000+ of that Dell XPS bs, and was dead 5 hours after the set up.

Nope, he said to himself 'fuck it, fuck DELL' and he got his refund.
 
In what I can recommend for stable DELL Desktop PCs, is Vostro 220s, and 425s
 
For beginner to build a computer, you could look inside your computer and know the cpu, video card, etc hardwares and what are they do. Reading reviews and forum other sites like Tom's Hardware: Hardware News, Tests and Reviews, etc. When I was like about 15 years old and my old computer doesn't work anymore so I play with it and apart to look what's inside, that's how I learned to build computer :lol:. Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more! is best site to buy computer parts.

Perhaps, his power supply system at his house wasnt good enough to provide the powerful XPS dell PC?? :laugh2:

Vostro is not for serious gaming. it's for business/development purpose. Vostro 220's will not even meet Nathan's needs by a mile. it's far from it. 425's could but it's still not for serious gaming purpose.
