Britney Spears & Her ??? Condition

Good question. My guess is they dealt with her substance abuse first. Then, set about getting an accurate diagnosis. I think it would be difficult to get an accurate diagnosis if the person was always on mind altering substances?

Jillio, what say you?

Exactly. Can't get an accurate dx when a patient is using mind and mood altering drugs. Likewise, depending upon what they are using, giving an antidpressant or a mood stabilizer while they are abusing could lead to some serious consequences...including death.

this happens to *anyone* who is hospitalized for mental illness. when i was hospitalized for bipolar in 2006, the psychiatrist overseeing my treatment looked into my mental health history to help make a correct diagnosis. psychiatrists also need to know whether or not a patient has a history of depression or bipolar since depressive and manic episodes can be caused by not taking one's psychiatric meds.

no no. They were not supposed to look into that file. They were just staff like nurses.

Yes, I remember that being reported. They were not even the nurses assigned to Spear's case. There was absolutely no reason for them to be looking at her file.

really? i never heard about that. i thought jiro was talking about nurses who were assigned to spears' case.

i didn't know that. i thought you were referring to nurses and doctors who were assigned to spears' case. since they weren't, you're correct. they had no right to look into her file.

The first priority would be to get her off whatever substance she was abusing. Until the drugs and alcohol are out of her system, we don't know if the mania is caused by the substances being abused, or by a chemical imbalance.

:ty: for the explanation.

Yep. I believe they were given an ethics violation with the board of nursing, and some sort of disciplinary action from the hospital (can't remember what exactly).

 of course. i guess i was thinking about the immediacy of the manic episode and bringing spears down from it, but you're absolutely right. i failed to consider the fact that mood stabilizers and antidepressants mixed with alcohol and drugs could create a life theatening situation or death.

good. i'm glad they received disciplinary action. they had no right to invade spears' privacy like that.
