British Court Allows Transsexual to be Transferred to Women's Prison

It's too bad no one stood up for the human rights of the victims as vigorously as they did for the rapist murderer.

Right.

The vast majority of clinics that do reassignment surgery also require that an individual live as a transgender for a full year before they will even begin the process of trasitioning to pre-operative transexual. Then that trasition period will also take another year or so before surgical reassignment will be attempted.

What the prisoner did to the victims is sad and horrendous. No doubt.

But the prisoners also have certain rights whether we like it or not.

I do disagree on allowing that prisoner to continue with the procedure transform herself as an inmate.
 
Although born a man, she began the process of gender reassignment while in prison. In 2006, she obtained a legal acknowledgment that she should be recognized as a woman.

The prisoner, who was then a man, was originally sentenced to five years for manslaughter in 2001 after strangling his boyfriend to death.

Days after his release, he tried to rape a female shopkeeper and was sentenced to life.


This is where the "confusion" sets in to me....days "after" he was released. "he" tried to rape a female.....

This doesn't change the fact that she is transsexual and should therefore be in a female prison. The fact she raped a female doesn't speak to her gender identity.

Even in the United States, pre-surgical transexuals can have all of their legal documents...birth certificate, driver's license, SS card, etc. changed to state that they are of the female gender during the transition process.

I've read the article. What you need to do is understand not just the law, but the process of trasitioning from male to female.

Right, you can become a woman even before the sex surgery here in Texas. I know. I met a young guy who was in the process of becoming a woman and she hasn't had a surgery yet. She went to the court to change his gender and the liberal Austin court judge said, "Congratulations! You're officially a woman!"

Of course, he later had surgery. She is no longer a man. It was weird!

But I do question the possible mistake in allowing him to go to a female prison - could he be bullshitting and just wanted to go to female prison so he could have sex with women? Was he all the sudden wanting to be a woman? If that's the case then it's not a true "transsexual." Transsexuals, from what I understand, grew up thinking they'r the opposite sex.

So, Reba does have a point. It's a valid concern.

How do we know that she has not had those inclinations his entire life? Reassignment surgery is not something doctors perform at the drop of a hat. There are many psychological evals that are done. There are medical histories that are done. Not everyone seeking reassignment surgery is given the surgery. Many criteria must be met for a candidate to be considered. It isn't like walking into a plastic surgeon's office and requesting a nose job.
 
Most countries require a year to two years of living as the opposite sex as well as being followed by a mental health professional to ensure the person is genuinely transsexual. This is because sexual reassignment surgery is too serious to be something one would regret later. Hormones are something that come earlier in the process than the surgery. So the fact that she is going through a transition at all shows that it couldn't be a decision she made at the drop of a hat.
