When NYPD Officer Larry DePrimo bought boots for a homeless man who had blisters "the size of his palm,” he never expected anything in return.

But now that a photo of the cop's act of kindness has surfaced, the Internet is swelling with praise for the do-gooder who says he was spurred to action when he saw people laughing at the man on the 35-degree night, according to the New York Post.

DePrimo had no idea that an inspired passerby was taking a photo as he knelt down to put a pair of boots on a homeless man’s feet on Nov. 14. But after the tourist photographer posted the tender moment to Facebook, it quickly went viral, garnering more than 400,000 “likes” and celebrity status for DePrimo.

As DePrimo now makes his way around the talk show circuit, he’s been sharing the simple impetus of his good deed.

“You could see the blisters [on his feet] from 15 feet away,” DePrimo told CNN of the man who was shivering on that November night in Times Square. “I knew I had to help him.”

DePrimo went to a nearby Sketchers store to buy a pair of thermal socks and $75 insulated winter boots, the Associated Press reports.

Jennifer Foster, the tourist from Arizona who happened upon the moving scene, said she was so inspired by what she saw that she had to capture the moment.

“This man’s face lit up like it was Christmas and like, he had just been given, literally, a million dollars,” Foster told the Today Show.

Foster told CNN she was particularly inspired because DePrimo's action reminded her of witnessing her own father, who worked in law enforcement, give a man in need breakfast in a donut shop.

While DePrimo continues to get praise from impressed fans online, he’s also getting attention from politicians and higher-ups in the police force.

The New York Times reports the police commissioner gave DePrimo a pair of cufflinks in recognition of his good deed, and Mayor Michael Bloomberg tweeted that the officer's story is an “an important reminder to give back this holiday season."

Even more valuable than the thousands of “likes” and the attention he's received, DePrimo said, is how his small act could galvanize more people to help.

“It’s a lot about the people,” DePrimo told the Today Show. “You see just great comments. People are saying their faith in humanity is restored and that’s the biggest thing I can take away from all of this.”

That makes me happy to read about the policeman's kind act.

There are some good cops and some bad cops, but he is definitely a good cop showing his kindness to the homeless man. It is terrible for the homeless man not to have socks and boots to wear comfortably. Some robber might have took them or the homeless man lost them and never find them. But it is good that he get something for his feet to be warm and comfortable and not have to suffer in the freezing weather. :(

Actually, I was surprised to see that you posted it since I thought you were a cop hater.

Anyway, that was a good post. It made me feel good to see a person whether it's a cop or not helped the homeless man. The filth rich people would never do that. Sad!

What I meant is that if a rich person like Trump walked by, do you think he would get new boots for the homeless man like the cop did?

He might even slip the homeless man a $100 bill for all I know....'tis the Season for giving....and this time of year....people usually are thinking of the less fortunate.....

Even normal people putting $1 bills into the Salvation Army Bell Ringers bucket.....And of course, even I, am not filthy rich....but if I saw someone barefoot and homeless on the street, yes, I would do all I could to get him some shoes....even asking the person what size they wore, and going to a Thrift Store and buying them some.

IN my City, they are building another Homeless Shelter, since we have so many people on the streets....should be ready for accommodations after the 1st of the Year.....

We're supposed to have a "mild winter" here in Florida...and know the Homeless people are grateful for that...but for those in the New York and other cold cities...it's very sad to see them on the street without any shoes or a warm coat.....

Donald Trump doesn't walk by where that homeless man roams around. He gets driven or flown around :giggle:

beside.... Donald Trump has already donated tons of millions of dollars to charities for years.

Never give any money because they could use money to buy drugs.

Just give stuff like coats, shoes, shirts, socks, etc instead of money.

Not everyone does and it's still a nice thing to do. If people want money for drugs, they'll find a way regardless. They may as well die happy, life on the street is kind to no one.

It doesn't matter because you never know about how they spend the money.

I'm not giving any money, though.

Also, the drugs are serious matter in the US and go watch documentaries on TV about situation with drugs.

yes if they want money for drugs, they can find a way and usually innocent people get hurt/killed.

From reading various sites talking about this homeless guy, but before I begin, I applause this cop took the time to buy boot and socks and bring it to him. It was generous gifts for this homeless guy. Now, from my wife perspective (since she work as clincal therapist and she work with lot of homeless people) and other people, she noticed that the man sat next to the shoe store and he was hoping someone will buy him a shoe/boot. He may have many shoes at home (or shelter), or he may tried to get one from some one and the homeless guy will give to another homeless guy or he will trade boot/shoe with other homeless guy for drugs.

So, it's hard to see what he will do next after he get new boots from this cop. What count the most... is that this cop took a break and spent generous amount of money to buy boot and socks. Some people say that he shouldn't be doing that. Many of homeless people are very smart and trickory.

Oh wow, the war on drugs are miserably failed so what is wrong with DEA.

In my state, the possession of illegal drugs, including weeds could earn 10-20 years in state prison, so same goes with Louisiana.

Oh really, damn.

I learned that he donated $1 million to WWE while he donated $5k to the Salvation Army. WTF?

That was a very nice deed that police officer did. I hope there is a reward somehow for the officer.

I'm kind of surprised that officer spent that much money. Sure, officer would get a brand new shoe and a pack of socks for under $40.

Yeah, I'm sure that many homeless people are drug addicts, but hopefully that guy is thankful for the shoes.

In bold - that's very true because most job requite drug test and they won't hire anyone whoever are drug addicts because being addict to drugs cause psychological disorder and it will disrupt the ability to perform a job, like one man who is high on crack and he didn't call so well at help desk so the boss decided to fire him.

If you need job so don't become drug addicts but sometime, it isn't choice for people with mental illness, especially bipolar.

why donate when he can make his own charity program? lol but compared to other billionaires - he's a scrooge.

A review of the group’s Internal Revenue Service returns between 1990 and 2009 by The Smoking Gun found he has personally donated $3.7million.
