Blue Angel Crashes.

Whoa... lucky guy! :eek:

They were here in Rochester, New York, during the summer. I actually watched them fly overhead while I was at a local gas station. Heh!
 
I'm a huge fan of the Blue Angels. The US Naval Academy isn't too far from where I live and the Blue Angels make appearances quite often.

One thing about the article troubles me, thought

The pilot's name has not yet been released, pending notification of his next of kin.

Why would they put that in the article if the Pilot survived and is doing OK?
Next of kin are notifed when the person dies. My dictionary says:

'The closest relative of a deceased person.'

I don't know why the stood out to me so much :)

In the military, next of kin are also notified for injured or missing persons. Next of kin means the close family member/s that are listed on the form in their personnel record. That is to ensure that the family gets the news from a personal contact from the military or Red Cross, not the press.

When I was on active duty in the Navy, I was stationed for more than 5 years at NAS Pensacola, with the Public Affairs Office. We were responsible for sending out the press releases related to aircraft accidents, and for contacting the civilian press. There is a standard wording for aircraft accidents.

I used to attend some of the Blue Angels airshows as support staff when I was in the Navy. Also, because we lived in base housing on NASP, we could watch them practice. They did many of their low-flying manuevers right over our house. Whoa!!

it was an awesome experience
watching Blue Angels over my head
I can feel heavy heavy heavy vibration
(even WITHOUT hear anything at all into my ears !!)

P.S. If I am able to feel any vibration, then I can tell
that it was the most loudest thing of all...

Reba..thanks for the military clarification. I forgot that the military was like that. When I hear the term 'next of kin' I think of the family closed to the deceased. Regardless, I'm a fan of the Blue Angels and I'm glad this accident wasn't any more serious.
