blogs: online diaries

I have two.. one at live journal and it's SarahKat83 & the xanga one is wildkatress if anyone wants to add me. I think it's kewl and it helps me to vent sometimes about alot of things. I post them when I have the chance to. :)

I think they're alright... as long as the entries don't get too personal. There are some people here at NTID who make their entries very personal that when others read those entries, they get upset because it involved them and now everyone knows. Sometimes, these entries are thoughts... which are sometimes exaggerated. When they are exaggerated, it could get themselves or someone else in trouble. One time, this guy I knew slept with only four women... including the girlfriend he was with at that moment. He decided to be honest with his girlfriend, but his girlfriend wasn't happy about it. To her, "four" was "too many". They broke up and she made an entry about their break-up. She included her reason with something like, "He slept with many women. I guess that makes him a player." The first sentence was a misconception and the second sentence was an exaggeration. However, a lot of her friends stopped talking to this guy. Some of them were his friends, but he lost those friends because of that entry. He managed to save a couple because they realized that "many" was actually four, which was considered "few" to them. When making entries, people need to try to leave out as much actual names as they can unless they have something good to say.

I just remembered something. One big negative thing about blogs is that they can be used against people at RIT. One student was suspended because there was a 100 x 75 pixels picture on someone's blog of this student holding a bong. He wasn't even smoking it or anything. What's sad is, there are places that still legally sell bongs. :(
