Blacks continue to struggle with money...

Feel better, widdle snookums?
I did not consider my post to be off-topic; rather, I was stating my belief that the poverty cycle among blacks was more or less engineered. You can deny it all you want, but to insist it was off-topic just shows your intellectual immaturity.
Have a nice day, and be sure to wipe your nose.

I was expecting you trying to be witty. Squeezed your head and out came nothing but shit. I was right your nothing but a ego on a :type: compansating. It's the only way you can stand up to me. Face to face you would be nothing but a coward. Plan you next remark. I don't waste my time with ARROGANT :sure: Never call me little. I could wipe my ass with a little like wimp like you...

Just out of curiosity, what exactly does 'poor' have to do with it? I'm attempting to ask a legitimate question and not make light of the topic.

I grew up very poor myself. I also moved from foster home to foster home throughout my childhood until I was 14 years old, almost 15 and I went out on my own. At the age of 14, while in school, I also held down a full time job and still worked part time. I didn't have family 'hand-me-downs' nor did I have any family nest egg. The first vehicle I owned was a motorcycle that costs $300 because I couldn't afford a car. I've made my way through life, and while I'm not at the 'top', I've done OK for myself.

What I'm failing to understand is what being poor has to do with it. Many of the people I grew up with in various foster homes continued to go on to very successful careers and lifestyles.

One thing I see daily, especially within the black community is a lack of desire and a lack of pride. In our area, there are probably more opportunities for minorities than there are for caucasions. In a lot of the project neighborhoods, there is job assistance as well as education assistance. Many of them could get a free or greatly reduced college education. Unfortunately, many of them make the choice of standing on the street corner and collecting welfare. Unfortunately, it is impossible to become successful while living off of welfare. Add to that the fact that generations of families remain on the welfare system.

I recently talked to two people that are 17 years of age. Both live on welfare and both have about the same education and from what I can gather, both are at about the same intellectual level.

Subject 1 tells me he has no desire to go get a job or do the hustle/bustle because he doesn't want to do it...plain and simple. He could sell drugs for tax free cash money while the govt pays for his housing, etc. I asked him about his future...and he tells me he has his future all planned out. While telling me his 'future' he not once mentioned moving up in life. His attitude was he couldn't move up because others were holding him down, in particular the whites. He feels (as he told me in his words) the world owes him something and he will continue to stand on corners until he gets whats coming to him. He also has no desire to provide for the 2 babies he has created.

Subject#2 lives 4 or 5 houses down from Subject 1. He walks about a mile to work at our local mall to a part time job he has. When he is finished high school, he will go full-time. His parents offer him no support. It is common for me to find him walking home from work in the dead of winter in freezing rain or snow. His father has a truck but will not come and pick his son up. If his son is 10 minutes late getting home, he will lock him out of the house. While discussing work with him, the kid tells me he is working his way up and saving his money so he can get out of 'this hellhole' and make a better life. He plans to marry someday and have children. He wants to provide for his future wife and future kids because (in his words) 'it takes a boy to make a baby...it takes a man to raise a child'. He also wants to provide a much better life and home enviroment for himself and his future family...and the only way he'll do that is making his way to the top and by educating himself.

So, 2 people in very similar circumstances with 2 totally different outlooks on life and futures. One I'm positive will become successful in his endeavors...the other I believe will probably be dead within the next 2 to 3 years.

CC sinned, knock off your immatureness and start your own flamming and insults somewhere else. this is not the right place to start stuff like that.

thank you.

(seriously, lay off some pot, too.)

Just some of my observations from the South:

"Poor" is not a matter of income; it is a matter of attitude. I know many classy people who don't have much money or material possessions. I also know many "trashy" people who have plenty of money. "Classy" people (black, white, brown, or whatever combination), work hard, strive to improve themselves, keep clean, stay sober, support their kids, have high expectations for their kids, have high moral standards for themselves and their families, don't lie or cheat, are shamed by bad behavior, and don't waste their money on booze, drugs, smokes, or gambling. Classy people do not make "welfare" a way of life.

Black people have had to overcome slavery, Jim Crow laws, and discrimination, yes. Many ordinary black people live successful lives. They are not basketball players, pop singers, or famous names. But they own local barber shops, funeral parlors, drycleaners, diners, used car lots, and shrimp boats. They are local lawyers, preachers, doctors, teachers, professors, real estate agents, police officers, nurses, basket makers, wrought iron artisans, and politicians. In other words, black people are working in the same fields as white people.

Lots of the black folks here (especially in the rural and island communities) eat too much fried food; as do many of the white Southerners.

I have interpreted for black and white students at the college. Some are ambitious, some are lazy whiners, in both colors.

IMHO, black people would be better off if allowed to compete equally with everyone else. No quotas, no special programs, no restrictions. No liberal politicians allowed to get votes by offering special "entitlements." No long-term welfare programs that encourage dependancy.

I believe they can do it. Not everyone, but many, will succeed. If more people must strive, and are not held back, then more can succeed.

I would like to read opinions from our black AD members. What have you seen or experienced in the black community?

If you don't like what he said to you, then don't reply back making shit worse. besides, "dork" isn't much of an insult or anything but more of a joke. Get with the program, CC sinned. I've been called dork a million times and I don't take that too seriously anyway though I know they are just messing around. You should know he was just messing with you too.

Now cut it out and continue with the thread, please.
