Big Apple or The World's Second Home?

New York City wants to change its name.

The Big Apple doesn't want to be The Big Apple anymore. Now New York City wants to be known as "The World's Second Home."

The city has filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the slogan, "The World's Second Home," which would give New York City the exclusive rights to use it to promote business and tourism, report The Associated Press and The New York Times. Expect to see the phrase attached to more than 200 products and services--from mouse pads to money clips and theatrical productions to temporary tattoos. The Times notes that generations of immigrants in New York have long known that the city really is the world's second home.


No offense but I cant imagine New York City as Second Home????!

No offense but I cant imagine New York City as Second Home????!

Well maybe they want to be seen as Second Home since NYC has MANY MANY ethnic and nationalities groups... so the natives (or "tourists" in their perspective) may visit NYC and still immerse in their own culture and language in certain communities of NewYorkCity... thus the slogan "Second Home" is more fitting.

I can understand that but I think it wont make the Italians happy-- since they have no place to call "home" in NYC... Chinatown totally is enroaching the Little Italy!

Hmmm I hear you but then what is First Home? There is no Irish City there either. Im sure there are many other nationalities not represented in New York City either.

What about Native Americans?

I guess this cant please every population out there.
 
I can't see New York City changing it's name to "The World's Second Home", or whatever. I've one who likes, even thrives, on routine and sameness. Changing from The Big Apple is too much for me. :giggle:

New York will always be The Big Apple to me. :ugh:
 
The new name is kinda lame.

"The Big Apple" is fine.

Well, I say let em change it cuz Minneapolis is chomping at the bit to be known is the "Mini-Apple" LOL! Get it....what it would sound like? Hehe
