A man asked, "Jesus, is it right to pay taxes to the government or not?"

Jesus said, "here, show me a coin." And they handed him a penny.

"Whose picture is stamped on it?" Jesus asked.

So I guess it is okay to pay taxes because the money belong to the government anyway.

I wasn't talking about money, honey.

God calls us to serve.

Yes practice what you preached, and don't judge, and people will followed your good example.

So if Jesus is God's son....
And he preached these words that are written in the Bible by men,

So are you guys gonna follow these words or still say you believe in God and Jesus in your heart and the Bible is written by men we shouldn't have to follow that.

Are you guys contradict yallselves or what?

Why not follow the Bible and do what the Bible tell you to do if you're gonnna follow Jesus's words anyway?

Jesus said he didn't came to Earth to cancel Moses' laws, he wanted to fullfilled them.

Wow, what Bible do you read?! My Bible (KJV) doesn't say anything like that.

KJV EPH 5:22-23

22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

1 Corinthians 14:34 (King James Version)

34Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.

wow...Reba the lord says u need to shut up unless he or the husband says u can talk. ur disobeying god..shame shame.

so? We women didn't invent cars, planes, and computers, without men, we women would be in bad shape.

I guess the real point of this is that NO ONE lives perfectly by every edict of the Bible because culture advances, and our attitudes change. The Bible in all it's forms is indelibly altered by the cultural context in which it was written and/or retranslated. (Anyone who claims to abide perfectly by the Bible is delusional or a flat out liar.)

Some people criticize different churches for "picking and choosing" what to follow. Well, we ALL pick and choose what to follow based on our own authentic experiences with God.

What if I told you about the very specific message from God to me about tolerance for people of different races, cultures, national origins and sexual orientations? My experience is just as valid as Paul's - or Matthew, Mark, Luke and John's experiences.

my point is...(and ive never read the bible. im going off of what people have said in here) and using what Morrigan posted....women are to be seen and not heard, unless addressed by the husband, women are bigger sinners than men...because women moved for the womens rights. the ability to talk when they want, to do what they want. they defied the lords word by moving for womens rights...when it says in the bible that women should be quiet.

thats not what i feel...thats just what im seeing here.

Divorce.

Pharisees came and told Jesus that Moses said it is all right and all a man has to do is write his wife a letter of dismissal.

But Jesus said, "and why did he say that? I'll tell you why, it was a concession to your hardhearted wickedness. But it certainly isn't God's way. For from the very first he made man and woman to be joined together permanently in marriage; therefore a man is to leave his father and mother, and he and his wife are united so that they are no longer two, but one. And no man may separate what God has joined together."

None of those verses say anything about:
...women existed only to serve men and have babies and that women had no capacity for anything remotely resembling intelligence...
I don't know how on earth you got the interpretation that you did from those verses (which you have so thoughtfully quoted out of context to boot).

Not one of those verses says that women exist only to serve men and have babies. Not one of those verses says that women have no capacity for intelligence.

You need to do better than that.

The Lord says no such thing. You have stated that you have not read the Bible so you have no clue what God has said about women.

No - as far as I can tell, there were no statements by Paul directly on point, but what he DID say can sound pretty anti-woman depending on how you read it. Many have used the Bible to justify subjugation of diffrent races, women, gays for centuries. To act apalled - as you did - at the suggestion that there are some pretty damning verses is to deny observable history.

I found a rather interesting treatise on how Paul was actually pro-woman, and his statements quite revolutionary for their time. Frankly, I find him an intolerable egotist.

Oh - and I am not the one who made the original claim. I simply found some related verses for you.

For more context:

Ephesians 5:
21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. 29 For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: 30 For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones. 31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.

You can't leave out the commandments of God for the men to love, nourish, and cherish their wives, and to be willing to sacrifice themselves for their wives.

The wives are to submit themselves to their "own husbands"--not other men. Husband and wives are to submit themselves to each other.

Men are ordered to love their wives the same way they love their own bodies; that is, they should take care of their wives, not abuse them.

Jesus said, "the law of Moses says. 'If a man gouges out another's eye, he must pay with his own eye. If a tooth gets knocked out, knock out the tooth of the one who did it' But I say: Don't resist violence! If you are slapped on one cheek, turn the other too. If you are ordered to court, and your shirt is taken from you, give your coat too. Give to those who ask, and don't turn away from those who want to borrow."

So death penalty is wrong.

If thats true, I guess its okay to let the murderer/rapist
rape and murder your daughter/son. I guess there is
no need to take the murderer to the Court and
just let him go free and/or let him escape from
the prison during "his life sentence".
Just Let him hit you and you will turn
your other cheek, etc. Just let him rape/murder
another little Girl/Boy at another locations whatever.
Just Let him stay at your house/basement.

IMHO: Death Penalty is NOT a Revenge, NOT a Murder
but it is more of Punishment and Prevention from
a repeated murder/rape to another victim.

God wants orderliness in His churches. The churches in Corinth had acquired a bad reputation for the way they were conducting their services. They had become disorderly and chaotic, and people were all "doing their own thing." They had to be corrected.

I Corinthians 14:

23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? 24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: 25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. 27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. 29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge. 30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. 31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. 32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. 33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. 35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? 37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. 38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. 39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. 40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

Especially if that is the way it presented, out of context.

The verses aren't damning; it is the perversion of their meanings that is damning.

Yeah husband and wife suppose to be like partners.... As business partners, police partners, a tennis partners, a volleyball partner, a team, working together, have sex even tho one don't feel like it, never keep secret from each other, buddies, loyal friends, put mind together, pay off bills, feed each other, help each other, if disagree with something then toss a coin, and all.

1 Corinthians 7:
3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. 4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

Paul loved and respected the women of the church:

Philippians 4:1-9
1 Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved. 2 I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord. 3 And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.

Romans 16:1-16
1 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea: 2 That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also. 3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus: 4 Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. 5 Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my wellbeloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ. 6 Greet Mary, who bestowed much labour on us.
