Just thought I'd post a subject related to this. Does anyone on the board remember the Bhopal disaster? It's been all over the news lately as the twentyith anniversary has rolled around. I can't believe I'd never really heard of it before. I have been reading all about it to make up for lost time. I don't remember it at all, as I was only five (still in preschool) For those of you who don't know, the Bhopal disaster was an incident in India where a posionous gas leak killed thousands of people, in the India city of Bhopal. It's weird.....stuff like the Challenger and Apollo 13 and things like that seem to be more famous.

Yes, I remember Bhopal. It was awful. It was very big news.

Bhopal and CSR

This was a really terrible disaster to begin with, for the people of Bhopal as well as the environment. They have had to live with the pain and suffering for so many years and still no justice! And the Warren guy, why not get him extradited? As for CSR, it is a disgrace for Dow Chemical. When is the mess all going to be cleaned up? This article points to the fall of CSR for Dow in the Bhopal disaster: Lax Prison Terms for Bhopal Disaster Convicts Point to Poor CSR

I saw about that tragedy on Democracy Now a couple of years ago but until then hadn't heard of it. I agree that it was and is terrible! But it seems like if such things happen to "poor" <basing on U.S. standards> people and people of color, it gets much more covered up, then if it happens in U.S. /West <not always but often> and to white people. My perspective.

I remember it quite well.....It was a major story.

Much like Chernobyl......Although the actual death toll of Chernobyl wasn't that large....alot of people were expected to get cancer.
