Best tip for weeds?

Weeds hate pine needles, never had weeds around pine trees. so I am going to put barks and shredded pine needles around the bushes and flower bed to keep weeds under control. Hope it helps.

Oh that weeds? Damn! I thought sumthin else! Oh well...

Hey LT, sorry we are outta of that fabrics.I used them all under patio, that is why there has not been one weed popped up there!

Yeah... definietly sucker!!!!! weeds :rl:

After finish to build our dream house... It's impossible to remove weeds because there're dozen of weeds at a large garden so we ordered excavator to remove the whole 5 or 7 inches soil with weeds out of my garden and then add re-new soil from compose on my garden and then seed them to grow grass... Plenty water until grass grow.... fresh.... We take care of our garden with organic lawn fertilizer twice a year... Keep on water on grass... clean with no weeds... until we realized that water expenses are expensive so we decide to water flowers and vegetables only instead of grass... only twice a year with lawn fertilizer... Guess what, dandelion weeds come back... but not dozens as we first bought the land... The weeds won't come back if we take care of grass... Thanks to water expenses *sigh*

Anyway we tried to find way to rid of weeds is:

Put 4 inches mulch on flower beds and in garden house to protect weeds to spread out... and grow for a long months.

We were being recommended to kill weed roots with kettle of full boiling water. We did what Sequious described...

then pour hot water to soil where I just removed roots.... (best to remove weed roots after rain or dampy because it's easier to remove with soak/mud) It seem works (not yet... too early to say this because we tried it for a first time last June - wait and see). We only boil the kettle for coffee or tea and then leftover hot water then go to kill weeds time to time... We are thinking about buy Hozelock Weedkiller Sprayer for Xmas.. (just add water to steam and kill weeds), not need to boil water...

like this
Weed Control in Hot Water
Watering,Hozelock Sprayers
Garden Sprayers at Tooled-Up.com

It explains better what we want to buy like this...
Portable steam weed killing apparatus - Patent 6029589

It's not just weeds, but clean car tyres or concrete to rid of dirt, that's why we want to use weedkiller sprayer for anything to clean our garden and car tyres or metal.....

Any questions?

Maybe, you could try boil hot water and pour the water on the weeds. You are definitely right about the chemicals are not safe. I think that you are very smart about it.

I always thought I chemical called "Round-Up" was really good at killing weeds & making them stay gone. Because its supposed to go down & kill the roots.

I was told to dig until you have the roots there then pour some gasoline in there leave the roots there in with the gas and throw a match in then burn until gone. Don't make a big hole and fill 1 gallon into the hole, man just dig enough to where you can pull the roots then leave it there then just pour alittle but not too much then stand back and toss a wood struck match in. Does the job nicely then you will have no more weed problems. I learned that in Texas. It is 100% natural.

I am chicken ass do that! I won't take that risk.

I used to do that in a small area for the weeds. Now, a hot water is much safer... no chemicals.

Believe me, bittersweet vines and blue or purple wisteria vines are really tough ones. Don't buy wisteria vines and they are beautiful, but powerful roots that are not possible to get rid of. I would probably use the gas for these vines if the spurs of plants from the ground are out of control.
