Im already missing movies TV shows even WWE Wrestling. If no fun when you cant hear. Watching movies while deaf is not normal. Youre supposed to hear sound effects when watching a movie. I know TV shows you read the captions but reading them i dont get the joke. The only thing i can see on TV for the time being is silent movies from the 1920s and sports. I automaticly know whats going on watching baseball and football its kinda like watching at the stadium. But watching the WWE its much more than wresling body slams and illegal choke holds when the referee does`nt see it. Its a soap opera you gotta listen to the story. Like my favorite wrestler is Triple H. You gotta listen what he`s saying on what his plans are. I hope someday i can hear again so i cant enjoy my normal lifestyle again.

Um, I'm able to embrace the story-lines and get the jokes in any TV shows, movies, and more without any problems and I'm deaf.

Apparently, you just read differently?

Sounds like you've lost your hearing at one point in your life, if so, how did it happened? To hear can be a luxury for some or most people that may take for granted...our other 'senses' we can truly adapt and utilize to the fullest by appreciating what 'senses' we do have and make the most out of those other senses. I'm Hoh and can hear exceptionally good, yet, there are times when it's totally quiet, it is beautiful and sooo peaceful. I sure hope you will be able to fully appreciate your other keen senses that you now have.... ;)

Yeah, I do get the jokes. Even better than my mother whom English isn't her first language. I just find myself laughing more than her and she's asked what they meant. Well, I can hear with the device so......I don't know, but I watch tv without hearing device on.

Maybe you just read differen't and "get it" in a different way.

Thats one thing doctors cannot figure out. What caused your deafness. My doctor doesnt even know what caused my deafness. Even when i was a little kid they dont know why why my hearing went from perferct to 65% loss. I been deaf for 3 weeks now and theyre still runing more tests. But theres good news for the future.Keep your fingers crossed because Scientists have successfully grown auditory hair cells.

yep too bad we aren't like the birds, who can regenerate their hair cells in their ears...strange eh?

Sounds like you just lost your hearing.

If you have heard sounds before, then you know what you are missing out on. But for me, since I never grew up with sounds, it is not something I would feel pained over. I have other senses to use.

Maybe you can contact other late deafened adults and share your story and find support you need. Association of Late Deafened Adults (ALDA) is a good place to start out with.

Best of luck with finding a cure ...but in meanwhile, why not get to enjoy what you do have. Silence is not a curse - there are so many blessings to discover.

Let me fill-in the blank line like this
"Being in a silent world is ....."
I would add something like these:
Being in a silent world is Blessing !
Being in a silent world is Wonderful !
Being in a silent world is like being in a parasite/heaven !
Being in a silent world is Normal for me, NOT for you, that's OK !
Being in a silent world is Great so that way I do NOT have
to wake up hearing these crying babies sounds"

Note: I was born deaf and I would go insane/crazy
if I can hear anything tickle into my ears :)
Therefore, being deaf is normal for me....

But i have developed new abilities when i went deaf. Im more alert then ever my sences make me look somewhere when there might be attention. I drive by looking all 3 of my mirrors. How many of you that are deaf drive by looking at all 3 mirrors in your car?

Good question ..it is a thing I take for granted - its automatic response, I guess. I mostly look into rearview mirror.

Yeah me 2, I always look in my rearview mirror when I'm driving....

I don't know what it like to be able to hear things out there, because I can't remember the things I have heard when I was 4 before I ever lost my hearing at the age of 5....

I can tell you this, I used to hear music so well when I was young during my school years, then suddenly I am unable to hear it quite well as I used to ... and sometimes I get a bit scare that one day I will wake up and not hearing a sound....

If I could hear alot more out of this world, then maybe it would be something to learn what it really sound like....

One time, my friend and I were walking on the beach, and she asked me if I could hear the waves or the sounds of the ocean..I told her ' no ' , that when she told me that only if you could hear the ocean, you will be amazing to hear how beautiful it sounds like, now that's sad, because I could never know what the ocean really sounds like...:(

hmm I use my rear mirror very often, and I sometimes check the side mirrors so yeah I check all three mirrors... the way everyone should be doing anyhow :)

Im sorry Angel, :( If 10 years from now doctors successfuly made people hear again would you take the chance or after 60 days you had surgery would you go down to the beach listen to the waves and the seagulis?
I know what ill miss, Roaring of the crowd of an NFL game. A crack of the bat. Ball hitting the mitt squeeking tennis shoes on the court at a basketball game. Horn sounds after a peroid. Buzz horn when player comes in the game. Sounds of combat on a war movie. Music ill miss the most. But theres always hope for tommorow.

Everyone needs to look at their 3 mirrors, it's not just hearing people. My mom and brother are both hearing and they need to check it out just like us. I have always thought that it was so dumb that they write down mirror for both side just because I am deaf. Everyone needs it! If you're not checking them out, then you must be a bad driver and following a bad habit. The 3 mirrors are already in every car, they are not just for deaf people--they are for everyone.

I never feel like I have to be more careful to drive because of my deafness. I do it out of caution and being a good driver. Some hearing people are just probably distracted and think they are too good to look in the mirrors. I don't know, but I don't see how this relate too much to deafness. Maybe because I have a CI, it's different?

BTW, most drivers honk for zero reasons. They don't do it out of goodness or warnings. They do it to pi-- people and the only way they can release their anger. I hear it all the time and flip my finger or pay zero attention to them. They are so stupid because I sit up front and they are honking not knowing what it is the reason when you aren't even up front and know the situation, so it's like I want them to shut up.

Tiara let me ask you this? Are old people anoying in front of you when they drive to slow? What about when your light turns green and all the sudden a truck pulls out in front of you without warning. Now there are some idiotic drivers out there and blowing your horn let them theyre doing something wrong.Seems like cops are not doing their jobs. Im paying my taxes for cops to issue these bad drivers tickets. If i wasnt doing my job id be fired. So if the cops wont do their jobs blow your horn at them let em know youre gonna get a ticket.

10 years from now? ....Oh dear, I will be 44 in 10 more years  ..

I rather to have something now whether than waiting that long just to hear again.... :(

*ahems*...while polishing your ever glowing halo...pray and believe that one day the beauty of some sounds will find its way to your ears...for now, your 'other' senses behold beauty of its own in ways you alone appreciate and cherish! ;)

(...and psstt, 44 isn't as shocking as you may think it would be...! :smoking: )

Hmm, I am not sure what you are referring to or why you are asking these questions. I haven't been around slow drivers very much especially it doesn't mean that they are old people. If they are slow, I just move over or wait patiently. Do I need to honk? I don't believe so. I never really honk to be honest. There's no purpose to honk when I am mad or someone makes a mistake. I'd honk if i saw someone suddenly walk across the street and wasn't looking. Something like that to warn people, but not to piss other people off which is basically all the time.

I have had a car pull up in front of me while I was learning to drive. Yes, it had a sign that I was a learning driver, but did I honk? No, the person know they are a f-cking idiot.

Honking will not let anyone learn any lessons. Cops drive faster in highways everyday, so I don't care about them. I care about me and my life, not teaching other drivers they are wrong by honking. When you drive, you are in charge of your own life, not teaching other drivers a lesson.
