Post holiday depression is a very real problem for many.

This is why my daughter what me to be with her for Christmas , she also want her daughter to have both of her grandmothers there.

I hope I wont have it this year. I hope to be sleeping it off for 2 weeks after Christmas because my winter break starts the day after Christmas. However, my boss at my 2nd job asked me to work some extra hours during the week. Debating on whether I should or not. Rest or extra money? hmmmm

Oh, wow! You are working right up to Christmas. That is not good! I say take at least some time off afterwards. The money is great, but you also need a break. You do so much as it is. You should just relax and enjoy Nathan playing with his Christmas goodies. He won't be a little guy much longer.
 
I attended a very dear friend's wedding a couple of years ago. She is Jewish and her husband is a Russian orthodox Jew. The wedding took friggin forever. If I am ever invited to another Jewish orthodox wedding I might just have to "passover" and send a gift. :giggle:

Yes. We have 2 women's shelters and a man's shelter and all 3 are full right now. The emergency services dept. has given out more vouchers to the food bank than they did last year already. There have been call after call of people wanting to know where they can get help providing Christmas for their children. It really is sad.

I told them I will work one day. That's it. Just 6 hours. That's the day Nathan is going to his cousin's house. The other days, I just turned down to.

I was taught 2 different explanations. One is that breaking the glass is a reminder of the destruction of the Temples in Jerusalem. The other is that the glass symbolizes the loving relationship of the couple, and it is a reminder that the relationship is fragile and must be cared for and not broken.

I experienced the exact same thing....as the Best man. The thing was so long we actually were allowed to sit for a bit. It was hours.

Mine was about 20 minutes and my next one may be even shorter....

I heard on the news tonight more people are on food stamps than ever. The food banks out here are running out of food. And the cost of food is horrible! I saw another homeless last week at the park I go to. I made a phone for one homeless man that wanted to go an homeless shelter but he needed $10 for a train ticket. I did not see him today , I hope he found some place warm to sleep instead of sleeping in the park! I gave him my umbrella when it was pouring one day. I am not sure what he did with it as he did not have the next day.

I felt the same way about my parent's friend's daughter's wedding. They are Greek Orthodox. They really get married! It seemed like an hour before they got married. :giggle:

I'm glad that Santa Claus and the rabbit aren't part of their traditions; they aren't part of any of my holiday celebrations either. :)

I'll be the first to admit there is an undeniable religious association with Christmas (I was raised Catholic), but anyone who knows history understands that it's not exactly accurate either.

I don't believe the above quote is true. Christmas is much more a commercial holiday than anything else. There are people, myself included, who feel we could do without the religious symbolism, surely. However, I don't believe giving thanks to the people in your life is one of them. If you feel better doing that while standing next to a cross, star or any other religious symbol, so be it, but it is much more a human act, IMO, than a metaphysical one.

You don't need the tree or the fat guy in the suit to have a Holiday.
 
Like Kristina, I feel Christmas has become too commercialized. Stuff goes in the store in the summer now!
 
The only comment I am going to make regarding non Christmas observers not getting an invitation is that every church I have ever attended does not ban people from attending. Now, that isn't to say that perhaps there are some that do.

Christmas services are nearly always open to the general public, you do not have to be a Christian to attend, just respectful so others can also enjoy the service.
