Before Obamacare and After Obamacare

I guess this whole concept of a married couple being treated like "children" is foreign to me.

some deaf married couple are treated that way. Hence why we needed more interpreters and accommodations so we can be more independent.

I guess if the gov't want to make 26 a dependent child, then he is a dependent child. now if we can only get rid of privacy rights as a parent and access his mental healthcare in college....

This is what you put in your previous post -

This is what he said BEFORE the quote you posted

That's not exactly what he meant. What he was concerned is that Clinton wanted people to buy health coverage even if they cannot afford it or face fines. But Obama was being clever about it. He was playing with her words to score some points.

Although - right now... effective 2016 - we are required to have health insurance coverage or face fines up to $695 or 2.5% of your income (whichever is greater). However - "Exemptions will be granted for financial hardship, those for whom the lowest-cost option exceeds 8 percent of an individual's income and those with incomes below the tax filing threshold (in 2009, the threshold for taxpayers under age 65 was $9,350 for singles and $18,700 for couples)." (source)

That is my main issue. Obviously this reform was no easy task. Compromise has to be made. You've been in real world long enough to know that it's a common strategy in order to get the main job done. Since Hillary Clinton's a seasoned politician with strong support base... it's no surprise that Obama's gotta compromise in order to gain her support base. You don't always get exactly what you want but Obama got what he wanted on most part. Quite a portion of Obama's Health Care Reform was what he promised during his 2008 Presidential Campaign.

so.... you said "Obama lied big time.".... big time? what else did he lie beside mandatory insurance?

no, I disagree, he was not being "clever", he was lying.

Certainly, at the very least, a mental boo-boo and maybe giving us some insight into what he's really thinking...?

The man changed his mind and Hillary is right. Jk, actually I don't think he really like this bill, but to him, it's better than nothing. Also, that's what democrats keep saying.

If they didn't like the bill, why did they vote for it?

It makes them money, and makes us pay for it.

I guess this whole concept of a married couple being treated like "children" is foreign to me. After I graduated from high school, it never occurred to me to even ask my parents for college money, insurance, or living expenses. By then, I was age 18, a legal adult.

I can understand a single college student living at home getting a room and board provided, as long as they are working and paying for their own college expenses.

Unless they come up with a word that replace "children". I've seen "adult children" online and on the papers. This is 21st century now. Inflation has changed. Everything is more expensive. There is nothing wrong with staying at a friend or family member's place while attending school. Sacrifices have to be made. Helping each other is an act of charity.

In California, they just announced school fees will be increased that will hurt students' pockets. My niece and her husband attend a state university, and it is incredibly expensive. They are living at a school apartment across the street, and they had to get approval first.

Many students have to change their plans to attend community colleges to complete general education and lower division classes because they are cheaper than universities. Some schools do not accept transfer students unless they must complete all general education and division classes first. Schools have been adding new required classes to lower division and upper divisions every year, which make students attend school longer. It used to be a 4 year school, but not anymore. More classes. More money.

This 21-year-old student from my American history class died walking on the sidewalk of the college. Driver lost control of his car, and ran over her. Her parents still have to pay over $60,000 for her dead daughter's medical bill, because she had no medical insurance. Thank goodness, the college had set up the fund to raise money to pay for that bill. It may not be enough to pay for that entire bill, but it is better than nothing.

Shouldn't the driver's insurance agency be responsible for paying the medical bills since he was the one who hit and killed her?

I would think so but it's possible the driver didn't have insurance which is not unusual.

Which would be a stupid thing to do. It's illegal here to operate a vehicle without insurance.

I don't really understand ya'all. How is it lying if this current health care reform isn't what he promised during his presidential campaign? How is it different from compromise? Do you know if he PURPOSELY lied when he debated about it with Hillary Clinton?

It's illegal here also but some still drive without insurance. I agree it is an idiotic thing to do.

I don't get it either. My 18th birthday present was a rental agreement for my room. My folks said it would be the greatest gift I would ever get. They were right.

Alot of car insurance caps out at 25,000-50,000 for injuries. They can sue the individual for anything over that.....that person might be broke though.

Another note. Not all health insurance will cover injuries from a car accident.

better than nothing, right? I mean it's been what? 30+ years? Enough of this farce.

30+ million Americans (including 8+ million children) are uninsured. Many can't afford it or got screwed by health insurances cuz of pre-existing condition.

I half-halfheartedly support this reform but I'm especially glad about the immediate changes. As for change that will take place in 2016, I am very concerned. I certainly hope the Senate will remove some items like mandatory insurance and anything relating to small business.

It's a changing world these days. More and more adults are still living at home with their parents. Even these who are in their 30s and 40s.

I bought my first house at the age of 24. Not many people of that age can claim they did the same these days.

$25,000 to $50,000? That's a joke. Here, they would be able to get much more out of that.

TXGolfer - beside being compensated by their insurance.. the victim can get more thru civil lawsuit, right?

Mine is 100K/300K for liability and I have always chosen that level(there are several lesser amounts).
