just singing this song after watching Barry McGuire played this song on PBS recently in tv show "SoundTrack: This Land is your Land"

The song is called;
Eve Of Destruction
Artist(s) Barry McGuire

The eastern world, it is explodin’.
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin’
You’re old enough to kill, but not for votin’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin’
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin’

But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Don’t you understand what I’m tryin’ to say
Can’t you feel the fears I’m feelin’ today?
If the button is pushed, there’s no runnin’ away
There’ll be no one to save, with the world in a grave
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Yeah, my blood’s so mad feels like coagulatin’
I’m sitting here just contemplatin’
I can’t twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Handful of senators don’t pass legislation
And marches alone can’t bring integration
When human respect is disintegratin’
This whole crazy world is just too frustratin’

And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to Selma, Alabama
You may leave here for 4 days in space
But when you return, it’s the same old place
The poundin’ of the drums, the pride and disgrace
You can bury your dad, but don’t leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don’t forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You don’t believe
We’re on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you don’t believe
We’re on the eve
of destruction.

I see there were more than 20 views.. I thank you for your time to read this ;)

nice song isn't it?

It would be even nicer if it showed You-Know-Who pole-dancing to it.
;)

Ahhh, the nostalgia of that song! I remember it well. I wish that you could hear the raw, rough voice that sang it. The topic was rough, and the voice matched it. It wasn't smooth; actually kind of monotonous, but that was the beauty of it. It sounded more like a protest shout than a "song", with a touch of Bob Dylan-ish harmonica.

Let's give P.F. Sloan credit for the lyrics. :applause: He also wrote the theme song to "Secret Agent Man" (sung by Johnny Rivers), another favorite of mine. :)

I heard Barry McGuire sang this song with his guitar on PBS that night few days ago. it was angry sounding though...

The program was produced by WQED Multimedia in association with Rhino Entertainment, Retropolis and PBS and was originally released on PBS in 2002. The first round of PBS broadcast rights for the program expired in December 2004. PBS has decided to secure a second rights term for this successful fundraising program beginning in March 2006.

Really, thank u for let us know. I do wish to hear this song instead of read words and guessing what it is sound alike.

A good ASL performer could do it justice. Knowing the story behind the words makes it more interesting, too. I think a video collage of the scenes it describes would be cool, too.
