Bans 'do not cut abortion rate'

Not a surprise. Abstinence only education does not cut rate of young people having sex either.

For all of you proof people:

The main objective of Title V, Section 510 abstinence education programs is to teach abstinence from sexual activity outside of marriage. The impact results from the four selected programs show no impacts on rates of sexual abstinence. About half of all study youth had remained abstinent at the time of the final follow-up survey, and program and control group youth had similar rates of sexual abstinence. Moreover, the average age at first sexual intercourse and the number of sexual partners were almost identical for program and control youth.

There are a bunch of statistics for you math nerds.

If the sex education and the abstinence are blended in together, I think it would get better.

Yes, my teen took health and they didn't teach him anything. I was surprised because when I took health they at least tried to scare you with pictures of STDs. Many teens won't ask their parents about sex. At least they can look it up on the internet.

AN ASIDE: den master got a call because his kid googled "f*ck" during library time--the kid got caught because the search stirred up quite a ruckus among the elementary school class--lesson learned: your kick will find out about sex one way or another (hopefully they'll get accurate information).

No surprise there. If it's illegal, women will resort to other methods. Needless to say, much riskier and much more dangerous methods.

nothing to discuss in here. ya'all know what my stance is. this article supported our stance. :cool2:

Exactly. Women sought out abortions before it was legal, and will continue to do so no matter what the legal status is. The only question is whether they are safe, or whether they needlessly risk a woman's life and reproductive health.

I posted a study some time ago that showed the only difference between teens who had abstinence only ed and comprehensive ed was that the teens receiving abstinence only were more likely not to use birth control. The age at which they first had sex, the number of partners they had, the frequency with which they had sex was all the same as the control group.

All of this assumes that abortion is safe today - and it really isn't (the abortion industry wants you to believe it is though). Women do die today as a result of abortions - not to mention that it kills babies (hardly safe)! And, abortions do major damage to emotional and reproductive health. Abortion can cause fertility problems, miscarraiges and premature birth with future pregnancies. Yes, some women would still seek out abortion if it was illegal, however, if it was illegal, the sheer magnitude of abortions today would decrease, therefore the end result of number of people it kills would dramaticaly decrease. Abortion today kills millions (mothers and babies included), if it was illegal and more emphasis was placed on getting moms help in our society, then the number of people that die as a result of abortion would be dramitically lower and not even come close to what it is today.

I have yet seen a sex education class tell people to go out and have sex.. They also teach them to wait.

So that is the whole point of allowing sex education.

And they also tell students to be careful. If I remember correctly from my former school.

I think they are against sex education cos of STDs & disease in some nude humans pictures. My thought is... maybe the information could just give a full and rich detail on information without show any picture that would be good idea? Cos I do remember those pictures were in a sex ED book. :dunno: I don't know.

I am all for sex education and teaching kids to wait.. but I am not naive.. I will also teach my kids how to protect themselves. and keep an open line with them..

Every parent in their right mind will tell their kids to wai

I don't have a problem with teaching kids to wait... I have a problem with them not being educated about Birth Control and protection if they decide to defy their parents wishes.. and have sex. Which many teens do so..

Yep. I'm all with you. I find it is hard to believe that anybody think sex education is 'a bad thing' or something like that. To me, its not so bad. Its worthy information that what kids/teens need to know.

I'm not a parent yet, but always reading some new information about sex and health. That will keep you aware and learn well. :)

Exactly.. It is the key... Caring parents do hope their children will wait. but with all the peer pressure all we can do is educate..

Children do not always wait.. even though we teach them to.. but we do educate them on the choices and tools they can use.

Even then.. It is not 100 percent... So this is why it is imperative to communicate with the children (teens) about pregnancies and STD and just in general of sex...

Not surprised but I believe that women need have think so twice about have pregnant or take care of sex, it does disgusted me when some women has repeated abortion.

I'm not surprise either. Thank god! I took a physical education for sex education when I was in 5 grader. I know how to protect myself with birth control pills and condom. Many boys asked me for sex. I restrained their ask me. Until I got broke virgin at age 16 by deaf 21 years old man begged me for sex. He had his condom. I had a sinus infection. The students thought I was pregnant because I went to bathroom back and fourth. I told them no! I had sinus infection and bronchitis. They forced me to get a pregnancy test. I told them I was not pregnant. They said if I am preggo what I can do? I told them I was not ready for baby at age 16. They offered me to abortion the baby. They told me how to abort the baby by horseback, punch with my hands on my belly until lose the baby. That's unsafe abortion. In my mind, That is not right. It turned me off and talked with my ex bf who did to me. He said he used the condom to protect me from pregnancy. 1 week later, Finally I got period. Thank GOD!

I know one of my friend is addict to abortion babies about 10 to 12 times. She is heartless to children. Geez! She have her own problem.

My daughter asked me about all of it when she was 10 or so, and I got together with the school nurse and we had a talk with her and explained everything including the risks. She still remembers the talk and is appreciative of it. My son and his father talked when he was 12, then son came to me because he wasn't sure hubby had the right info. I wanted to make sure I had it right (I'm not a guy), so we talked with the doctor. Son has no problems and is willing to wait. They are now 14 & 15 and still are saying that they will wait until they are married, only daughter says she won't get married.
