ban fraternity

There are people who I know who have a dislike for "Greek organizations." They do not dislike me solely because I was in a fraternity. In fact, once they learn that I was in a fraternity, they often have a chance to ask questions and find out that their misconceptions were wrong. I can think of 5 people off the top of my head who I've talked to personally who have had their perceptions altered because they had a civil discussion with me.

I honestly can't recall anyone who, upon finding out I was in a fraternity, had a negative reaction to me from then forth. Probably because in the real world, you can't do that and expect to succeed. The people I tend to be around are those who strive to succeed and they recognize that not all they hear in the news is bad.

Good luck with your dislike of fraternities and sororities!

It's all a popularity contest. I've seen people who were "not cool" with the fraternity members go through harsh hazing etc and either get in or not. And then I've seen people who were "cool" with the frat members have a easier time getting in, without going through harsh hazing rituals.
Keep in mind, when pledging to join a frat or sorority, the members are putting you through the hazing to see how much humiliation you are willing to go through. Gally's KG fraternity has been trhough a lot. A LOT. They are not the prestigous fraternity they once were, unfortunately. I've seen a close friend of a few KG members not get accepted in the fraternity for no apparent reason. (DR) I myself have never even entertained the thought of joining a fraternity. I just don't find it very appealing and my time is better spent doing other things I enjoy.

Hazing is not allowed. Sadly, some fraternities still do it. Some don't really do it, but end up getting carried away with it. A lot of fraternities and sororities at RIT don't allow hazing.
