That is correct, the purpose of the camshaft is to open and close valves at specific timing. Without them, can't open no valves nor close em.
I find it impossible that one of internal combustion engine without camshaft.
If no camshaft, what would it be to open and close the valve? Wanker engine?

2 stroke engine does not have valve, that is why there is no camshaft on 2 stroke engines.

Tell you this, it is very rare that camshaft snaps at low miles. Most common cause for it to snap is not properly heat treated. I used to work at machine shop and did seen how camshaft was made. It was made with soft steel to begin with. Once it is cut and grinded it needs intensive heat treatment to get this soft steel harden, once it is properly heat treated they are very tough to break.

You said no camshaft, now you said you said no chain belt for camshaft. How does the subaru engine power the camshaft without a belt or chain? gear drive? Probably not, too noisy.

I guess Toyota didn't properly heat treat the camshaft and it broke. Probably bad quality control at the factory, uh oh for Toyota.
 
Toyota and Honda tend to use belt instead of chains like most American cars uses chain. I prefer chain over belt so that I don't have to worry about changing belts, failure to replace belt before they snap can cause permanent damage to engine.

I guess Neo means that his subaru engine's valvetrain is driven by chain, not belt. Yes, that's correct that many Toyota and Hondas use belt to drive the camshaft.

I know all American use chain. That's why I plan to get Chevy truck for carry stuff and I keep Subaru for FUN. Everyone should read on manual first before drive. Belts must replace new timing Belt each 100k miles.
 
Subaru isnt my fave car! No car fits me, I rather pu truck or SUV! I got two SUV, and both of them are Jeep with the best engine ever built, 4.0L straight 6. No longer make that engine after model year 2006. The only problem with this great engine is that it is truly gas guzzler!

Don't you know Subaru have SUV?

Jeep is awful gas and slow. I drove Jeep Wrangler '97 before and I hate it so much.
