Questions for the ASL Future Strategy

I am curious what would be your priority if you had to list the 3 most important things that need to happen for ASL?

Please make a list of ONLY three in your response:

› Deaf children access to education through ASL

› Support for families/ extended families/ small township or villages/community at close proximityto learn ASL

› Interpreting services more available and better quality

› Establish a ASL “commission” or guiding body

› Develop NZSL resources for learning ASL

› Public and government information and services available in ASL

› Language development – develop more ASL vocab, eg: for schools, universities, sensitive use of concepts to represent other cultures, etc

› Public promotion and awareness of ASL

› Research on ASL– resources and information, eg: dictionary, grammar, Deaf community, etc.

› Other? Please say: (if you pick this one, make it SHORT, dont explain, explain (otherwise there would be a risk of getting into debate which is NOT intended for this thread)

Curious? Do you mean this only for people from New Zealand?

These are two that I would think of. Some are already being done I think.

My choices above.

All the other points will fall in place naturally.

My three in purple. The most practical for everyday living.

I have a book with an article relating to NZSL and ASL interpreters experience.

"Sandwiching the generation of interpreters- NZSL interpreters"

If you want, I would be so happy to mail you this book if you kindly PM me your address.

This book is a wonderful resource for all interpreters as well as the Deaf community on a global-scale. If you wish for more information, please do PM me.

I believe in helping my deaf community on a global scale.
