Are there TV shows showing sign language?

Hello-
I have a hearing 2 1/2 year old son who shows signs of delayed language development. He just doesn't get excited by the opportunity to use words to express himself. But...he enjoys using sign language and is always showing off the signs we have taught him. I was hoping someone in the group knew of a TV show on cable that helped teach sign language. We have a new WINTV system and I can record it right to DVD if I can find it. I heard there is (or used to be ) a show called "See Hear" and one called "Silent Hands." But I cannot find these shows on my WINTV system. Does anyone knopw of another show, or when these shows are aired?

There's Sue Thomas, F B Eye, airing on the Pax TV network. I've only watched the show for a couple of minutes, so I don't know how much ASL is used, and it may not be appropriate for young children. (It's a FBI show, after all!)

I don't know if Sesame Street still uses some sign language, courtesy of Linda Bove, or some other TV personality.
 
FB Eye has a good amount, at least of what I've seen. Of course every scene with the main character had sign..and in the episode I saw there was another deaf woman who did not speak at all- just used sign. It was really an awesome thing to have that on TV. I wish there was a lot more of it.
 
You can borrow ASL videos from your local community college that has a large ASL program..??

You have to register to be able to borrow them. You can tell them that your son has a delayed language development and use ASL to communicate-- I am sure they don't mind letting you registering.

(They are orientating for deaf viewers or teachers with deaf students so the videos are shown with CC or subtitles or even in ASL! I used this website for my two online classes Philosophy 101 and Anthropology 102 and I am very satisfied with their services!)
 
Years ago (1980s), there were TV shows then that had sign language in them (I am sure the older ones about my age may remember these).....

"Say It With Sign" -- this starred a hearing couple who was teaching sign language, the husband has a doctorate degree, and the wife's parents were deaf.....Thier names were Lawrence and Sharon Solow (see this link: http://www.seatape.com/sign.htm)....but they also did songs in sign language too. :)

There was a TV show about "Dogs for the Deaf" and this host (blonde guy) was signing through the show....I remember watching this one when it came on. :) I was trying to find a link about this show on Hearing Ear Dogs, but with no luck.

There was even a "deaf channel" TV show back then....Silent Network (here's the link: http://deafness.about.com/cs/featurearticles/a/silentnetwork.htm)....I remember Ed Waterstreet being in this one....they did a lot of fun things on the show. :)

But I enjoyed "Sue Thomas:FBEYE" too as well as those I saw years ago. :) It shows that my enjoyment of deaf themes in TV hasn't changed. ;) Oh, and I read the book of an autobiography written by the real Sue Thomas called "Silent Night"...it was a good read! :)
 
There was an old episode on the Smurfs with a deaf character using sign language. It was interesting.

the west wing has has m matalin on alot as a polital adviser. she signs and has an interpiter

Reasonable Doubts was Matlin's old show in the eighties XD
OMGZ.
And she was in this movie too.
THAT MOVIE WAS FUNNY.
Especially when they were all jumping around on the stage singing "jump" XD.
I never laughed so hard..
ANd then she comes in, AND RUINS IT. SHE'S ALL
"OMg WTF this is stupid die in hell.. *Run out*."
 
i remember one show that contained sign language, but it was aired when I was 4 y.o. in 1990... I don't watch TV much now since I have school :-\

I think you are talking about her movie "Children of a Lesser God" with William Hurt. :) William was the teacher who taught the class in the movie to dance and sign Jump, and Marlee looked really mad and stormed out after he saw the kids on stage. :) If this is what you saw, then it is that movie..."Children of a Lesser God". :)

About Law and Order, I once saw an episode of the blond woman (Caryn - name in real life - she's one of the stars)...she was signing to a deaf man who was investigated in the show. :) She did good in her signing. :)

or the spagetti incident...she was in a bunch of movies....but we are of the point..........any newer tv shows?????i mean BECKER had a blind guy.......i did a play on my life in college..about a deaf guy with a blind girlfreind who live together...................yes..very funny and frustrating....maby i should try to pitch it on tv.....hhhmmmm

There is a show called "Signing Time" it teaches them signs and sings while signing.
 
I think this is awesome. I wouldn't have come across this if Katlynn didn't bring it up.
 
I think the same, I'm checking out all the links right now. Anyone have any new shows to add... besides switched at birth or signing time.
