AOL Users

That's my point, that you still afraid to lose everything you need from AOL and you still pay too much. (total $44.94+) That's why anyone are STILL depend for AOL's need.

I paid only $29.99 on Cable 3Mbps package and I use Yahoo (for junk target) and Gmail (for family and friend) and AIM (no need pay - $0).

Oh yeah, there is no SBC DSL anymore, it's now AT&T DSL, it been change brand last Jan.

Edge, your'e not making sense about what I pay. Sure, we can drop AOL but we can afford it. We are not DEPENDED on AOL; my wife LIKES it. What is "too much money" for one person is not too much money for another. The cost doesn't bother us at all.

We have AOL only because my wife likes it BUT they are not our main ISP; we have DSL with SCB. Since AOL knows we are "BOOA" (Bringing Our Own Access), AOL charges us something like 14.95 a month. I am okay with that. With SBC, I use I.E. and Safari browsers. I think we are paying 29.99 for SBC High Speed Internet.

Cheri, I bet your'e getting excited. Boy, wait till you see the difference in your speed!! U will never again have to take a nap between each click! :P

*nods* Yep, Tousi! That's the same deal here. We have AOL, too. I use it, but only because, I'm used to it. I recently signed up on AIM to wean myself off AOL. I'm also fed up with it.

We also have a DSL line, so our main ISP is NOT AOL, either. We're carged the same amount for the BOOA as well.

Btw, Sequoias, you're correct! If you sign up on AIM, you CAN use the same screen name as you used on AOL.

Cheri, so now you can get a VP, being that you will have high speed cable.

I only use AIM and yes, you can keep your old screen name unless you have a personal reason to change it. AIM is free.

Something I cannot figure out tho, is how you get rid of their MAIL. I do not need or want their mailbox. It can cause alot of problems if the mail piles up unanswered.

Just sign me, "Mailboxed out"!

Cheri, since you're signing up for roadrunner, you're entitled to keep aol for free. This is something they essentially only tell you when you call to cancel your account. Happened to me, and I was so peeved they'd been charging me for aol all this time I said I still didn't want aol at all, period. Just thought it might be something you'd want to check into.

Cheri, Sequoias is right abt Screenname and password that you can keep it from AOL to AIM because in few months ago, I was on the dial-up and on AOL until my brother got Comcast Modrem for internet, my mom called the AOL to cancel and they wont let my mom to cancel it also, my mom said, "Oh want to mess up with me? Fine, I will mess up with you back" then hang up on them and wont pay them for almost 3 months or something like that, finally they disconnected my mom and I still have my scn and password from AOL, now I use it for AIM. :thumb: I hope everything will work out for you ;)

I really missed aol but I am very happy with SBC DSL captured my expection!

Hi cheri, I retired the dial 56k through aol.. Jan 12th 2006, I swtiched aol to sbc dsl (high speed internet) for reason I want to playing video games online.. however I missed AOL. ;) anyway I hate one thing, when I called AOl for disconnect, aol always chase me what they offered me like free three month fro free and discount 17.00 every months.. I declined thems offers. they kept chased me like they kept ask me why you want to disconnect their service, blah...blah...I honestly told them, I want to have high speed internet for video games online.. they kept to offered me discount $6 byoaof every month with another High speed ISP like SBC , RR on and on. it sound like to me it is so rip off and i kept my decline their offers.. finally they gave up on me and disconnect my dial 56k. ahhh I did!

sequoias: He is right about people who using their screenname by aol and they can keep their screen name from aol mail switch to aim mail, unless they must disconnect from aol service first then using aim mail for rest of life.. You just log on "mail" at aim.com and aim will ask you, if you want to keep your old screen name and transfer your old emails from aol to new aim mail.. that is it..

Once you using High speed internet, you will never go back 56K DIAL UP! Good luck with your new ISP! wink..

Recently, my friends and my aunt informed us to update their new email address. They turn away AOL account. Some told us that the AOL's price is not reasonable, and some said that some people did not receive some of their personal emails. We are sick of submitting to connect online to check our emails. It is too bad that AOL is getting no longer popular. I signed up a new ISP service, and cancelled my AOL account today. I am pretty glad that I switched the service. I wanted to get over with it.

Yea I finally cancelled the dumb AOl. Now I feel so much better. All I have to do sign in on my aim and the website will pop up so I can get into website. :D It is that neat.

Hope they continue to quit AOL and we'll have maybe 5,000 users worldwide. j/k
