I'm thinking of picking up "Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction" for my xbox. I've heard a lot of good things about the game even I played a bit of the PS2 version at the Best Buy since they sold out all of the xbox copies they had :P

Wondering if anyone here has played it yet?

I haven't played it yet, but I am planning on getting it when the price goes down. ;)

UPDATE:

I just decided what the hell and picked up a copy of Mercenaries: POD.

I have to say.....The game really rocked! Here I am right smack in North Korea trying to hunt down the so-called "Deck of 52" (Just like the method the Pentagon used to capture Saddam and his cohorts out in the real Iraq mess) If anyone can't remember what the Iraq mess's Deck of 52 was like ... Click here

The game plays like a cross between Grand Theft Auto III/VC/SA and Metal Gear Solid with some bits of Halo thrown in for good measure...lol. The player has 3 mercenaries to choose from 1) a black American guy, 2) a British girl or 3) the Swedish guy to start the game with. I started mine with the black guy (I played the girl on the PS2 version at the Best Buy).

The main enemy in the game are the North Koreans while I gotta deal with 4 friendly factions: 1) The Allied Nations comprised of the US, UK, and other Allied countries. 2) The Chinese 3) The South Koreans, led by a burnt-out CIA agent and 4) The Russian Mafia. Each of the 4 friendly factions will give you contracts. (Some contracts will require you to kill soldiers from another faction i.e. I get a Mafia contract that pays me to go in and kill the Chinese and vice versa)

Man even the missions have a GTA III/VC/SA feel to it, like stealing cars, finding hidden stuff even the way you execute a mission. If you're a fan of GTA III/VC/SA, you'll really feel more at home with M: POD like I did.

There are plenty of subtitles in both cutscenes and the game.

<--Still working on the Spades suit of the "Deck of 52" bosses. Right now I am on the Ace of Spades contract from the Allied Nations. Man, it's really frigging killing me since I got jammed by the North Korean Army. This means I can't order an air strike until I take out the jamming machines first....AUGH!

The 11 other cards on the Spades deck were laughably easy except for the Jack of Spades. I've managed to catch all except one alive, ( I accidentally killed him with an errant RPG after I took him down alive.) 'cause bounties for each card alive is worth more $$ alive than dead and the Allies can't even interrogate a corpse!

Now back to making a lot of mayhem in North Korea!
