my partner thinks i have a slight dysexlia. i never thought about dysexlia.
my brain is fixing it to correct words. is anyone experience dysexlia.
you know actor tom cruise, he has dysexlia too.

I have "math dyslexia"...I forgot the correct term for it, but same idea. I can only do very basic math...adding, subtracting, multiplying, and division, but division is very difficult. Fractions and decimals are impossible! Story problems confuses me, even with my good language skills. It's just...too many details for my poor brain!

How does one know if they are dyslexic? I remember mixing up a spelling, and my boss told me it could be a sign of dyslexia. Don't know if he was joking...

I don't think there's such thing as math dyslexia... for your case - let's just say you're not very good at math lol. My friend is like that too. He is a Russian literature genius but just terribly terribly horrendous at math.

I don't think one would know if they are dyslexic. It has to be diagnosed by doctor.

What makes your partner think you have it?

There are different kinds of dyslexia.

Dyscalculia (difficulty in learning or comprehending mathematics) was originally identified in case studies of patients who suffered specific arithmetic disabilities as a result of damage to specific regions of the brain.

aawwww c'mon! that sounds bullock! lol some people are just not good at math... some are just not good at literature... I'm not very good at chemistry... even at basic level so is that Dyschemistrilia for me? :o

It is a diagnosable disorder, and can be ascertained through testing. It involves more than just being lousy at math. Several criteria must be met for diagnosis.

Let's not be so insensitive to Lucia's problem, shall we?

If you or someone close to you suspects that you have dyslexia, I would strongly suggest that you be evaluated by a professional.

LOL. I have a similar problem with math. I can only do fractions only with a great deal of difficulty. Your post just blew a theory of mine that I had about word problems regarding deaf right out of the water too. Your problems sounds similar to my struggles with math.

I've been wondering if I should get my college degree because I've failed math so many times even with seeing a tutor everyday and math everyday and spending upward of 8 hours per day trying to pass math.

If you really want your college degree, find a college that offers a Bachelor of Specialized Studies degree. It will allow you to combine several majors into one overall degree without some of the GUR's like upper level math courses. You will still need one course in quantative studies according to most requirements, but can usually fulfil that with a philosophy course on statistical reasoning or some such course.

So... what kind?

I have a friend who had dyslexia. It was the kind where everything appears backwards to him. Even though he was taught how to spell right, he ended up writing what he saw. That's why some of his letters were backwards. I think it was "dysgraphia" that he had. :dunno:
