Any MacBook Pro charger problems?

I'm curious because I read the reviews at Apple.com, and they were strongly in the majority of very low scores. There were many complaints about the charger that comes with MacBook Pro.

The main complaint seems to be about the weak connection of the wiring into the MagSafe connector.

I haven't experienced any problems with mine. I did buy an extra one ($76-ouch!) to keep in my laptop bag for portable use, and to have as backup.

I researched the less expensive after-market chargers but my brother recommended against them for Apple products.

Anyone have any negative experiences with the charger?

I'm not surprised that people don't know how to use it properly cuz new charger design is quite different from normal charger. I don't recommend any "chinese products" for anything especially when it comes to power.

How do you mean "don't know how to use it properly?"

the plug design in new charger is rectangular shape and it's magnetic. At first, I had a bit of difficulty to get it charged properly. I guess lot of people are used to old way and prefer a plug-type charger.

I meant that the products are not authorized by Apple. Just third party counterfeit-like products.

I just wiggle and jiggle till it snaps in place magnetically Sometime Magsafe connector don't seat properly if sloppily inserted. My wife had no problem with Magsafe connector. It help prevent damage to connector if accidentally trip cord. It's an original charger came with Macbook Pro that she have.

One bad part is that if you left your credit card or Hotel door card on table and if you unload charger with Magsafe tip landing on card strip, good luck trying to open room door. Hotel door card is especially very sensitive and erased easily from strong magnetic field if very close by.

I've had Hotel door card erased and re-programmed several time till I realized that I was carrying car key with neodymium magnet inside of dongle (it was an old remote control attached to key dongle that was gutted out and placed neodymium magnet from broken hard drive using it as a spare key hiding behind bumper of the vehicle). I removed it and toss it in trash so it won't accidentally erase the door card. My bank ATM card also got erased and had to re-issue new one

We have no problem with power charger as it's from Apple product. I don't trust any aftermarket parts for Apple at all. We still have almost four years old of power chargers and no problem so far. No complained. I remember i had old Acer's power charger and it's stopped work after 2-3 years.

Most iPhone/iPod upgrade new iOS make aftermarket parts stop work it anymore.


Keep a mind. China's design are very poor, but USA's design are great job and send blueprint to China for make a parts like iPhone, Macbook, 99% of motherboards, etc. "Made in China" don't mean to be bad, it just design.

I have no problem with my original power charger for my MacBook Pro. Some Power charger for iPhone was cheap from Amazon.com or eBay but it takes about three hours for a full charge (0%-100%) when I plug my iPhone 4 on the original Apple supplied adapter. It has taken this USB adapter more than 12 hours charging my phone and it's still at only 89%. I really wanted this to work as it is much cheaper than the original item but unfortunately, at least for an iPhone 4, it does not work as intended. It s junk and fake. Should buy Apple original OEM charge at any Apple store or other electronic stores.

I've had no problem with mine. It pops right on, and the little light comes on to show that it's charging.

I think some people might be rough about unplugging it by pulling it from the cord. Maybe that weakens the contact.

Oh, yeah, definitely. Ironically, they're both made in China. But my brother said pretty much the same thing. Don't go off-name for Apple accessories that attach to the computer.

Maybe we women are more dainty about how we handle the MagSafe connector.
