THE CAPTIONING HOAX EXPOSED!

During this year's election campaign, we have observed numerous anti-Bush and anti-Republican emails circulating in the last few months that are full of outrageous, false claims which have been spread by political activists (some of whom are NOT DEAF) in the past several months. These are people who see a distinct advantage in using scare tactics to trick the Deaf into voting for the wrong candidate.

An example of this email can be found at www.DeafRepublicans.com. The email shown on our website is a prime example of the type of scare tactics perpetuated by the Democrats that prey upon the fears of Deaf voters. These emails are simply bald-faced lies and we find this practice repugnant and insulting to all Deaf people.

This distasteful practice has grown more common now because every single vote counts in this election. If a group of deaf people can be fooled into voting for these democratic activists’ candidates, it could influence the election!

On this website we will expose the lies contained in emails like these, and share with you the REAL TRUTH about President Bush’s record on Deaf issues!

We urge all people in the Deaf community to send a message to these activists on November 2, 2004, that THIS WILL NO LONGER BE TOLERATED and we will not be easily tricked!

Read below and click on the links to learn how the Deaf community is being misled:

THE CAPTIONING HOAX EXPOSED!

1) MYTH: THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION TRIED TO CUT DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION FUNDING FOR CAPTIONING!

VERDICT: FALSE!

The Government is NOT pulling money out of captioning! In fact MORE of our programming is being captioned!

Go to http://www.DeafRepublicans.com/captioning.html to learn more!

2) MYTH: THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION IS HURTING THE DEAF COMMUNITY BY DECIDING TO CUT FUNDING FOR CAPTIONS!

VERDICT: FALSE!

This shift in Department of EDUCATION priorities is a direct result of decisions made during the Clinton Administration, not the Bush Administration!

Go to http://www.DeafRepublicans.com/captioning.html to learn more!

3) MYTH: THE LIST OF RECENTLY APPROVED AND DISAPPROVED TV PROGRAMS SHOWS THAT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION WANTS TO END CAPTIONING ON MY FAVORITE SHOW!

VERDICT: FALSE!

The list of shows that have been circulated listing shows that will and will not be funded by the Department of Education (http://www.nad.org/site/pp.asp?c=foINKQMBF&b=181091) are mostly shows that are ALREADY required to be captioned by the producers themselves!

Go to http://www.DeafRepublicans.com/captioning.html to learn more!

4) MYTH: THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION MADE THIS DECISION BY SECRET COMMITTEE AND PURPOSELY EXCLUDED THE DEAF!

VERDICT: FALSE!

The Department of Education’s captioning funding program is, and has always been, a grants award program that requires an application, eligibility criteria and compliance requirements. Funding from a grants award program is NOT a "legal right," nor is it a "civil right."

Go to http://www.DeafRepublicans.com/captioning.html to learn more!

5) MYTH: THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION IS CENSORING THE DEAF!

VERDICT: FALSE!

The Department of Education is simply changing its funding priorities due to a Clinton Era decision, and is not "censoring" anything.

I already knew that, and that is not why I wasn't going to vote for Bush.

Thank you for being kind Tousi! I think I received an e-mail from this and asked someone who was in a wheelchair about this, and he said that the republicans are known to weaken the ADA law. Hmmm...

Well, you know, at least I can tell BS from people who write what they don't really know about. You can tell it's just ramble and just not liking the person itself. You know how you don't like some people for no reason? Well, I believe some voters are like this. Now, I am not saying Cheri is like this. I do think Cheri has her views ;)

Anyway, but I am sick and tired of democrats talking like this. It makes them look worse than republicans. It makes them almost evil in my eyes. I wouldn't say nothing like this. Some people have pure hatred when you look at them about Bush. It's disgusting.

he said that the republicans are known to weaken the ADA law.
Yes, that's why I'm not a Republican....They tend to hear about one or two cases of horrendous abuse of a social service and expolarate it to everyone, like they did with welfare!

I don't care who people vote for, but those e-mails received are hoaxes. If something sounds too good to be true, then it's a f-ucking hoax.
