Hoping I can get some feedback here....I have musical tennitus. Last night was one of the worst episodes, and I'm at my wit's end, could not sleep, so I'm feeling bad today.

Anyone else suffer from this? How are you able to "stop the music"?...Am wondering if stress could be a trigger factor?

It impairs my ability to think clearly and concentrate after a sleepless night of music. And as I've gotten older, it's escalated. Friends/family say "you look tired...get more sleep!"...Wish it were that simple....

I've yet to discuss this with my ENT, but have made a point to bring it up with him at my next appointment. But I don't foresee a solution to musical tennitus that's only in your head and no one else can hear it.

Sorry to hear that, RR. Sometimes I get ringing tinnitus and it drives me crazy.

I've heard that certain foods can exacerbate or trigger tinnitus, but there are plenty of other things as well. Also, I think when we are exposed to loud noises, even if we can't hear it, it can still trigger tinnitus, because sound is a vibration that will still enter the ear system regardless of if you are deaf or not.

Why don't you keep a log that records your tinnitus bouts, what you ate, what you did that day, if you were around anything that might have be loud, etc. etc. After a few months of gathering data, you might be able to find some correlations and figure out a way to reduce the tinnitus?

pop a pill and good night.

You might be on to something there, TWA....as yesterday I went to see a friend who lives close to the Naval base (NAS)...we were outside on the patio talking, and the roaring of the jets were horrific....it happens often there due to the Navy pilots practicing their runs...and flying very low.....Every 15-20 minutes a jet would "roar" and she would have to say "wait a minute, I can't hear you"...Even tho' I'm profound deaf, the vibes and the roar were very loud to me.....I don't undy how she can stand to live there! And she is not deaf....

I also have the ringing and a sound like "screaching" today...so I'm gonna make a note of all this.....I don't live close to the Naval base, so the Jets don't bother me where I live. Thank you so much for ur feedback!

Full moon is on the way this weekend, my husband did not get any night sleep. He is a werewolf. :)

Acupuncture!! I had insomnia really bad and Acupuncture helped me. I did not have head sounds but I was not able to sleep and Acupuncture was the only thing that helped me! And there is no side effects!

Haven't tried this, I'm sure it works for some people. As for "head sounds"...its musical tennitus (not voices, etc.)

This is something to consider, RR. Acupuncture treats the body's neural pathways and nervous system, which are directly related to tinnitus.

I don't usually like ehow, but this is just to show you that acupuncture seems to be an established treatment for tinnitus.

Good luck!

RR - I totally know what you mean. It seems to be getting worse for me with the musical tinnitus as well. It either seems to get louder and louder, or I will get 2 songs at the same time, but the broken track so it repeats over and over is the worst. I find when I take a sleeping pill, it does not help. I don't drink any alcohol, so I can't offer suggestions as to whether that will work or not. I know that if it gets really really bad (ready to take a gun to head type of bad, but no gun on property), I will go for a walk. Sometimes, just seeing the night sky and in my case, the airplanes does help. I have been know to just sit and meditate some and work hard to remember some calming music and try to get that to take over. I have gotten real good and using Beethoven or Bach or even Mozart to drown out Sammy Hagar, Scorpions and others. I was fortunate enough to have been exposed to all types of music when I could hear. My older brother was rock and roll, R&B and jazz, other brother was rock and roll only, I was country, folk songs and religious, parents were classical, opera, jazz and blues.

As I get older (I'm only 47) it is getting more and more frequent. I am also only just short of 5 years being total deaf. You've had that longer.

The moon is going to be closer to the earth this weekend and will look bigger and brighter! Get the garlic out!!

Speaking of that...just took my doggie out for a walk along the river bank, and the Moon is just gorgeous! It's huge.

You've explained it so well....and I tossed and turned last night, getting up several times...my hair all a tangled mess...took a very short nap this evening, am finding that whenever I can nap for 15-20 minutes, in a deep sleep, I do feel better.
I've still got the"music" singing in my head, it's constant, couple of different songs now, and repeating & repeating...Took my doggie out for a little walk to try to get my mind off of it, it did work somewhat, until I got back home and it started all over again....*sigh*....will be seeing my ENT in a few weeks, so I'm gonna try to discuss it with him and see if he might have a solution also.
Maybe you and I need to start up a rock 'n Roll band, Kristina....music 24/7...'course, we might wind up in the mental ward!...:giggle:

I was not sure how to spell musical 'tennitus' , so I wrote head sounds.
My daughter was getting horrible headaches when she was a child and acupuncture treatments helped her! She did not have to take pills to get rids of her headaches! And my daughter never get the headaches anymore.
She is now 36 years and was told she needed eyesglasses when she was younger. After she had acupuncture treatments she did not need to wear eyesglasses any more to read.

I had a very dear friend that came down with a real bad cold and woke up with tinnitus and she could not stand hearing the ringing all the time, She had it for a few years and finally had surgery to try and stop the ringing! It did not help! Her daughter begged her mother to go have acupuncture treatments. She finally when but the treatments did not work as the nerves where cuts during surgery to try and stop the ringing! It was really a drag as the acupuncture treatments would had help! We where so upset
that a doctor did the surgery! I hope your insurance will cover it! I know how awful tinnitus can be , I saw what it did to my dear friend.

I do believe stress is a factor. I'm not sure how to help you in that area.

Having said that, I get tinnitus from time to time (several times a month) and more often than not, its musical tinnitus.

What I do is, when I've had it up to here with it (because it lasts for days at a time) I purposely play other music, music that is at the other end of the spectrum of what's playing in my head. Its playing low in your head? Play screeching opera. You get the drift. And, at a much louder volume you'd normally listen to or feel to. It really works for me. It can be a temporary fix, but I do it as much as I need to until it passes for a while.

Hope this helps some.
