ancestry.com is letting peole use their site for free through Sept 6
I think I read some people were doing their famliy tree , amd would like to know this.

for immigration records.....

I found out I had an uncle I never knew about using this site. It have a list of all the family members that came here . Some famliy never talk anout a person , like my dad . He never told us his father had a brother. I found it very interesting found out how my grandmother got here as I never meet her
and I was named after her.

I set up my family tree from that site, and it is good Found PLENTY of interesting source on my mother's side

....They always talk about finding out that their ancestors are pretty cool,(on the commericials) but imainge an SNL satire of the commericals....I found out my ancestors were an axe murderer or the town drunk!

Hrmm...I once tried to use that site....but it doesn't work for me because that site is limited to only US ancestry or people who came to US years ago.

My parents immigrated to here from China, so I guess there won't be any ancestry records in China =/ =/

I have access to my family tree from ancestry.com, mind you :cool2:

I have the rest of my German ancestors dating back to 1851 and Irish ancestors dating back to 1750s. But it's bit difficult to trace Norwegian and Swedish ancestors before 1885 after my wealthy Swedish Great grandmother was disowned by her family for marrying my working-poor Great grandfather and my Great grandfather was the only Norwegian in the family that had left Norway for America. I'll try that website someday when I can...

Wow, no one care abt the family tree?!?!

I do...I was sooo shocked and speechless when you mentioned that you found more family generation dating back as far as to 991 A.D.!!! How is that possible!!! I was told that Erik the Red is one of my ancestors....yikes.

Yeah, not to mention that I sorta forced, I mean pushedly my bf few years ago to research his true ancestors...so finally he recently did. He was so shocked to learn that he's also part of Spanish. He got so upset that he's part of it....I told him don't jump to the wrong conclsion...Spanish doesn't mean coming from PR, DR or South America. Spain is still white European -- non-Hispanic White ethnic. Lol.

I do not need to use ancestry.com to know my dad's father was an ass, my dad told me this . I am sure we all have some ancestors we would not want people to know about. I know I hate to admitted to have a brother , I call him my ex brother .

My dad family came from Russia and they had no birth records. My dad had no idea when was born . He was born around 1892 or 1893 and I came to a dead end. Both of dad parents had no birth records.
That is really cool you are able to find your ancestors. My sister andi wanted to have a DNA test done to find more about our famliy, but the test has to be done a male ! And that would meaning talking to our exbrother.

My Great-Aunt's family in Australia did a family tree on my mother's half of the family. the records go from my children back to the year 1571. England to Australia to the US. My father's side will be harder as a some of the family had their names changed at Ellis Island. The German names were not understandable or something.

My dad told us his last name was changed when he got to USA, but it was hard to tell if dad was joking or telling the truth. And my dad would change the date of his birthday to made himself younger or older and this made it hard to find records . He said he was older so he could be in WW1. and this made it harder to find his discharge papers. My mom family came from England and it was easier find her family , I did not get very far , I was looking for my mom's sister date of birth and death. My mom had one sister that made not buried with her famliy and the sister stone had fallen apart on her grave. My mom was really sad about not being buried with her favortie
sister. So we had a stone made with my aunt name and date bith and death. And we put in front mom of parents stone. My mom felt better know when she was buried her beloved sister name would be there too.
I am sorry if I got carried away about my mom . but her birhday is Sept. 30 and I it hard time for my family now with the Jewish holidays and all.

This relative's name went from, and I'm guessing at the spelling, Gerhardt Heinricht Hollentzollen von Stauffen. they changed it to Gary Henry Meyer. Quite a leap there.
