An ASL question...

Interesting. I've taken several ASL, interpreting, and transliterating courses and workshops, and I've interpreted for ASL courses, and I've never seen any instructor require that.

I hope that's just a one-time assignment.

I hope that you aren't required to spend too much time on these glossing exercises. The most valuable way to use time for ASL learning is practicing signing to each other with the instructor's feedback.

The class is 3hrs, you are correct, we spend quite a bit of it in pairs & groups signing with each other. Five of us will be forming a study group for extra practice since class is only once a week. It feels like the glossing is more of an at home study/assigment
